It's Halloween, Kids

I intended to go out last night and get pictures of early revelers for your Daily Photo pleasure but we watched sporting events on TV. So for Halloween I offer a detail of the picture shown here of a shop window with Day of the Dead pictures. Is that a nun we see about to be run over by a devil on a bicycle?

One Picture

What's happening today? Well, UT football, Texas Rangers in game three of the Series and, of course, Saturday adjusted Halloween. So, I offer a picture taken from my balcony earlier in the month with a long lens of a Texas Flag with an orange sky that you can take for Halloween or burnt orange (UT's colors). Your choice. We plan to be in front of the TV tonight catching bits of the sporting events and maybe looking out at people downtown in costumes. (Already saw that last night.)

Art on the Avenue

Wednesday night we were at the Paramount for the Film Festival but Arthouse was swinging with its grand opening festivities. Videos were projecting onto the glass wall of the community room on the second floor.

Film Festival Winding Down

We haven't gotten to participate in Austin Film Festival as much as we'd like. But we saw "Black Swan" at the Paramount tonight and shot this picture after. The film that was second on the bill is about women who grasped for equality in the auto industry. Bravo Eloise for your support. We would have watched it, but we can only do one movie a day just now.

Another Shot of Playing for Change

Same group as yesterday taken by my friend Jackie last weekend. I like how this shot shows off the Antone's sign.

Playing for Change

Our friend Jackie saw this amazing band at Antone's on Saturday. She says: "This was an ensemble of 10 musicians from around the world, all fantastic." The group is a non-profit and you can read about them here.

Wahoo's Fish Tacos decorates with all kinds of stickers: their own, bands, products???

Day of the Dead Number 7

The Mexic Arte Museum Store at Fifth and Congress is getting into the Day of the Dead act, not surprisingly.

Day of the Dead Number 6

Incredibly lame to do another of these, I know. I put out the call on social media for donation pictures but none came through. So...SoCo Shop window featuring skeleton/devil theme. However, one thing I do like about this picture is that what looks like a reflection of my scattered hair is really a reflection of a tree and within that you can see the reflections of me and FFP. Well, you had to be there....

Day of the Dead Number 6

Gruesome colors, scary eyes and odd attachments...what could be more horrifying for Halloween or Dedicated for Day of the Dead? SoCo shop window, of course.

Safari in Old West Austin

Spied this truck in Old West Austin a couple of weeks ago. It's ready for exotic neighborhood tours.

Mystery Logo

Just what could this sign with nun-chunks mean? On Rio Grande.

Black and White

Uncommon Objects, a fascinating antique/junk shop with a number of vendors on South Congress always offers up interesting theme windows. Black and white objects dominated this one at the first of the month.

Day of the Dead Number 4

Don't know about you, but rooster goats and flying skeletons scare me. Hence the serious expression on my reflection.

Day of the Dead Number 3

Turquoise Door on South Congress is offering some great decorations or Day of the Dead. That Oxacan carving of a baboon (?) with wings (?) is puzzling, though.

Yogasm

Friend Jackie took this picture of yoga enthusiasts in Republic Park last Thursday, I believe. The event was called Yogasm and she says this pose is 'downward dog.' There is a small, white dog in the lower left, amused perhaps at the hairless apes on all fours.

Day of the Dead Number 1

With the influence of Mexico, our Halloween festivities often dovetail with the Day of the Dead. I discovered a tattoo parlor on South First that is called "Casa de Los Muertos." I guess they operate year-round, but I'm using them to kick off a day of the dead series that will go until Halloween or as long as I find pictures.

Scary

I'm not surprised my friend Steve is afraid to look in this mirror that he and Jackie discovered at the UT Visual Arts Center.

Stay Cool

Black Mail on South Congress is one of the coolest places to shop and they have the best window displays. I have been laughing that we consider 85 plus degrees F cool if it just cools off at night.

Boots on the Move

Happened to notice on a walk down South Congress that Heritage Boots has moved south of the river. Where Luther's used to be.

Sunday Event

I'm guessing the Jo's on South Congress figures this brunch is for everyone since most religions peg us all as sinners, right?

Old Tech

The Off the Wall gift and junk shop on South Congress offers some old school technology...film cameras and a typewriter. They also had a slide rule on offer.

Fun Shopping

Some of the wares in the window of Monkey See, Monkey Do on South Congress.

Bee and Bloom

This bush on Annie Street was loaded with pink flowers (identity?) and bees last week.

Wall Decor

Along the east side of South First there is a stone wall with this cow skull incorporated into the native stone. It's funny that a small walk from our high rise can yield such pictures.

A New Crepe in Town

By my count you can get crepes at three different trailers and the wonderful little Cafe Crepe on Second. I love crepes myself especially savory ones.

Graffiti Continued

On the side of Jo's Coffee on South Congress is this bit of graffiti. It seems sort of sweet but I guess it is really a tag and not Jo's decoration. FFP posed with it. Feeling the love.

Theme Day---Graffiti

Today is the first of October and thus 'theme day' on City Daily Photo. The theme is graffiti. I'm always a little conflicted about graffiti because it seems destructive and yet is something very artful. I offer one more picture from the Nueces Street festival that shows the chalk art on the street. First rain and it's all cleaned up. In fact, at the start of the fest the band schedule was written in chalk on the street. They had a rainstorm and it was gone so the drawings took hold when the pavement dried.
