Where Are We?
We've been away from Austin on auto-post for a bit but will get back to real time soon. This picture was taken earlier in June and shows us reflected in a shop window on one of our walks.

Just another migas morning
We just returned from a trip to France and thought that a nice batch of migas with a side of guacamole would be a good start to the day. We were catching up on our reading as well and especially liked the good news in this front page story.

Iconic Texan
Barbar Jordan's statue on the UT campus. Her statue is also at the airport. She was a legendary Texas Democrat. She was the first African-American elected to the Texas Senate after reconstruction. And the first woman elected to the United States Congress from Texas I believe.

Located on a business that is run out of a house and garage apartment converted to commercial use on Nueces. Not sure whose portrait this is.

Perfect SpotThis
This handicapped spot on Guadalupe near campus seems tailor-made for this vintage car. An articulated bus on the express line is in the street.

The Family that Suns Together
We took our exercise walk to the University of Texas one day in June and snapped this picture of a turtle family sunning themselves at the Turtle Pond. (Or Memorial Garden.) This little enclave is north of the Tower.

On the Way to Austin
In the hours after the big flood on May 25th, we were flying into Austin. I shot this with my old iPhone out the window. Surreal view.

Vehicle or Yard Art
Shot this one in South Austin last month. Couldn't decide if it was yard art or someone's parked vehicle.

Flora of the day
The rains had a nice effect on the flowers around the lake. I always love seeing cannas. They remind me of the beautiful specimens I had in my back yard at our house.

New library
Our town's new library is rising quickly on the shores of Lady Bird Lake, about two blocks from our front door. I can't wait to use it. We love living downtown.

The old and the new
The power plant was the source of electricity for the Austin of my youth. Now it is part of the burgeoning Seaholm development near the shores of Lady Bird Lake.

Shoal Creek flowing to the lake
Here is a shot of Shoal Creek, close to our building, one day after the big storm. It usually just sits there with a few puddles.

Texas Flood!
The famous sculpture of Stevie Ray Vaughan was in a muddy pit after the waters receded. Many people took shots of the water all the way up to his boots when the rains were pouring down. I'm sure that a lot of radio stations were playing his song "Texas Flood" during the storm.

Aftermath
This young lady and her dog on the shore of Lady Bird Lake were taking in a view of the receding waters from the recent heavy rains. And they knew that there are more to come.

Lili's art show
Lili Blessing recently had an art show at GSD&M. See the red bench? That is where people meet to talk about their spiritual side. A lot of the people she painted sat on it and conversed with her. Then she painted them. Her mom is Sara Hickman, the former State Musician of Texas.

Stylish like the 20's
It's the first of the month and it's theme day at City Daily Photo. The theme for June is stylish. I took this picture of FFP and our friend Karen dressed in the manner of the early twentieth century at the Paramount Theatre 100th anniversary gala. They were literally dancing in the street as the party took over Congress Avenue. Click here to see other interpretations of Stylish from around the world.
