Walking Home

On our walks, I often snap a picture of FFP walking ahead of me. Here he is walking north on South Lamar beside the Zach Theatre with the skyline north of Lady Bird Lake looming to the right.

Ready for Lunch

These herons were scoping out the possibility of scoring a nice fish the other day near the boardwalk.

Color and Line

The bold house color and bold red chairs with an interesting shape combine with all the shadows and lines to make a pleasing abstract.

Reflection of Our Home

Before we moved downtown there was a low-slung and quite ugly music venue (which also had terrible seating, bathrooms, and acoustics) across the street. They tore it down (scraped the lot) and built a low-slung, not quite as ugly (but close) music venue with terrible seating, bathrooms, and acoustics that was finished shortly before we got here. Because some better music venues came online it was used for disruptive concerts where drug use was prevalent and the attendees often left the neighborhood a mess. It was torn down and a large office building was built which is about to open. Our building is reflected in its facade in this picture.

New Growth

This cactus outside a downtown restaurant was sprouting new growth and the color surprised me.

Ready the Rebar

With another high rise in the background, these workers ready the rebar for the pour of a column on another office building.

Smoked Meat

This guy was in the heart of downtown delivering firewood for smoked meat cooking at Lambert's Fancy BBQ.

Orange cake and cheese

This small slice of moist orange cake and a piece of cheese was a perfect dessert at Lenoir the other night. We love eating at this initimate venue and we caught up with a friend at the same time.

Tumeric veggie crepes

Loved this delightful dish at Lenoir the other night.
A perfectly balanced array of roasted vegetables in a crepe, plus peanuts for crunch. 

A song from yesteryear

I thought I would put up a photo from a bygone era. The woman at bottom left here is a good friend of ours -- she is a professional singer with a degree in music and she used to travel around Central Texas performing. This photo is from Renaissance Faire, an event that still happens just outside of town.

Rules the roost

This chicken dish Linda had at Bonneville the other night was delicious, in her estimation. I have had it too, and I agree!

Top chop

This five-spiced pork chop that I had the other night was terrific. Wow -- what a meal. This was served at Bonneville, a place we haven't been to much. We will be back.

Scooterville, USA

Yes, we have all types of public transportation ready to go here. This is about one block from our place.

The Tacodeli booth at the Farmers Market always draws a long line. Thankfully, I got there ahead of all these folks.

Nice blockage for handicapped people

If I were in a wheelchair, I wouldn't appreciate this blockage on a city sidewalk by a club. Having to roll through gravel would not be a good thing.

Land Drills

The underpinnings of a new office building (which will house Google employees we are told) are being placed by these enormous machines. This lot is between Nueces, the creek (Shoal Creek) and Cesar Chavez and West Second. This will complete the buildout of the old Green Water treatment plant. Almost ten years ago, I commented on the coming development of the decommissioned plant. And almost eleven years ago, when we moved downtown, I shot a picture across the lake that shows the plant still in operation.

Some signs leave nothing to the imagination. We love this restaurant at the remodeled Carpenters Hall, by the way.

Scooter boys

Scooters have taken over our downtown area. Her you see some "bros" who are "reducing the carbon footprint." Actually, they are just joy-riding.

Hallelujah!

Our friend Eli was blowing the top off at Church on Monday one a recent -- yes, Monday night. They play at the Gallery Above The Continental Club. What a great group of players. We go there and enjoy the music as often as we can.

Anita Hill in Austin

On a recent Saturday morning, we attended a reception for Anita Hill at a nice home in West Austin. The man speaking is Jim Ritts, our friend who runs the Austin Theatre Alliance. She gave a talk at the Paramount Theatre the next night.

Austin has been invaded by scooters and we don't like them. Here is an example why.

Houses this big always get my attention. I wonder what the utility bills and taxes run in a place like this? And the maintenance -- wow.
