Flamingo herd

These flamingos were on the loose outside these retail trailers the other day.

Say Cheese

This trailer on South Congress has gourmet grilled cheese. Haven't tried it but very tempted.

Living room

This little trailer is just right for an extra room in this hidden neighborhood.

PoBoys on Fourth

This surfer bar trailer is on Fourth Street now. It used to be in the vacant lot on Congress at 2nd that is now becoming a giant hotel.

Musicians Ride

Noticed this interesting mural on a trailer on South First . Bufalo (sic) Bob's may also have good food (don't know, we aren't much for trailer dining) but the mural was worth the walk there. Willie, Marcia, Stevie et al on Armadillos!

Burger?

This mural is over at the Downtown Burgers trailer by the Convention Center. Nothing says burger like...a psychedelic bird. Thanks to Jackie for the nicely composed shot.

Best Sausage

Actually haven't eaten the offerings at this trailer on South Congress. But I like the way the trailer looks and the sign. We are having a little staycation on South Congress but I took this one Sunday when we were walking down there.

Trailer Food

A trailer on South Lamar offers a very uptown casual menu. Click to enlarge and read the details of the Velvet Elvis.

Not a Food Trailer

Jackie caught this trailer, covered with ashtrays, by the Mexican American Cultural Center. It is meant to deter smoking. Some Segway riders were going by when she shot it.

Voulez-vous Poulet avec Moi?

This food trailer up on 15th (which seems to be attached to a semi called the jalopy?) has that clever saying on the mural. Haven't tried the food. So many trailers, so much humidity, so little time.

More Tacos

This taco trailer on S. 1st adds another outdoor fast food venue. When will it end?

Trailer Thai

Trailers keep popping up with all sorts of cuisine. You will find this one on South First.

Gypsy Food Mob

Last weekend someone had the bright idea to take a batch of those food trailers and converge on Auditorium Shores and offer specials to one and all. Our friend Jackie took this shot of the crowd from her apartment. She reports trying to attend the event but the lines were too long. Local American Statesman pundit John Kelso wrote an article about attempting to attend and giving up. It will be interesting to find out how they handle this gathering if it repeats. Maybe a small admission fee that goes to feed the hungry? Food from trailers is becoming more and more popular but I'm kind of a sit down and eat person at heart.

A New Crepe in Town

By my count you can get crepes at three different trailers and the wonderful little Cafe Crepe on Second. I love crepes myself especially savory ones.

Bright New Sign

The crepe trailer on South Congress (which we'd shown before) has some new signage to attract attention. Still haven't tried their offerings...will have to wait until a cooler day to be outside and eat them.

Let's Just Say. Big. Fat.

We all know that there is a weight problem in this country and everyone likes to blame fast food chains. But how about a trailer serving 'Big. Fat. Donuts?' I have heard great things about this place and some of their offerings include bacon (yeah!) but Saturday when we walked up South Lamar to their location we didn't try anything...just took this picture. We have found that our walking has helped us level off our weight since we do our share of the eating and drinking. And next time I walk to this trailer I may have a donut with Canadian Bacon, Cream Cheese and Jalapeno Jelly!

Coffee Trailer

A while back we were in East Austin seeking some unusual art adventures. We parked near this trailer. It took me a moment, given the cactus font, to realize this was a coffee trailer...called "Trailer Perk."

Far From the Sea

Several little local businesses closed and some land was cleared by the property owners for a hotel project that has yet to come to fruition. Some food trailers have popped up including this one, serving Surf 'N Turf PoBoys. The building that remained on this block revealed an old mural, shown here, and it is still there.

Crepes Trailer

This trailer is on South Congress and it sells sweet and savory filled crêpes. The 'mille' in the name means thousand. I think there are 'mille crêpes' desserts in France that are made with many layers of the thin pancakes with sweet fillings but maybe this establishment was just hoping to sell its product by the thousands. We haven't tasted because we seem to spend fewer and fewer meals eating out of trailers. Have to try is some time, though.
