Paul Anka sings

What a great two hour concert by Paul Anka. We heard it at the Paramount not long ago. The man is 78 and he didn't miss a step.

This woman is a fantastic singer -- she was performing some jazz classics the other night at Parker Jazz Club. Loved her voice.

Liz goes country

Our friend Liz Morphis was singing her heart out the other night at a fundraiser for Dress for Success. As you can see, it had a country theme.

Our gal Liz is crooning again.

It's been a while since I ran a shot of Liz Morphis and the Violet Crown Revue. Here they are at The Elephant Room on a recent night. Love those tennies, Liz!

Theme Day -- Music

The theme for today is "Music" and here we have a photo from our favorite jazz club, Parker. That is the owner's wife singing with the big band. Here is how other bloggers from around the work interpreted today's theme on City Daily Photo.

Our pal Liz Morphis was crooning some songs from the Great American Songbook the other night at a fundraiser for the Shoal Creek Conservancy. It was a fun event.

Manhattan Dolls

These lovely ladies called the Manhattan Dolls were entertaining the troops at the Austin Cabaret Theater show the other night. As you might gather, their music was from the WWII era.

Liz hits some sweet notes.

The Jazz Pharaohs have a great new trombone player. And our favorite singer Miss Liz Morphis is still belting out the great songs we love like "All of Me" and "Straighten Up and Fly Right."

Dale Watson Entertains ACVB

We were invited to a Austin Convention and Visitor's Bureau Client Appreciation at the Velocity Lounge at the Circuit of the Americas last night. (FFP is on the board where his position is listed as 'patron of the arts.') Dale Watson and his band entertained with a panoply of country tunes. Great fun. This was the first time we'd been to the track.

And All That Jazz

The Elephant Room is about a six block walk from our condo. Tonight, for the price of a couple of drinks, we were treated to music from seven amazing instrumentalists plus the song stylings of none other than Liz Morphis.

Are you listening?

We went to a fabulous party last night at a magnificent Westbank home. Our friend Kevin, accompanied by a piano and bass, was belting out some classic songs-- Christmas oriented and otherwise. That's Billy Wolfe on the keys behind him. The home was dolled up to reflect the Stork Club. This is a shot I took with my iPhone from a front row seat. What a shindig!

Sara Hickman does Mother Ginger

As long as it's the season, I thought I'd throw in one more Mother Ginger shot. Here is my friend, well-known singer Sara Hickman all done up in her costume before the second act of "The Nutcracker." I took this photo Monday night while she was getting ready for her big role. Talk about a natural performer-- this woman was born to be on stage--and she is one of the most genuine, kind, warm-hearted souls you'll ever meet.

Like I said the other day, I've had a great time recruiting the VIP Mother Gingers since 1997-- it's hard to believe we've been doing it this long. Cookie Ruiz, the Executive Director of Ballet Austin, gave me the task back then and I'm grateful she had that much faith in me. It's always fun to watch VIPs get made up and have some fun.
And it makes my holiday season anything but boring.

Camptown Ponies

These three excellent musicians were playing on South Congress Saturday afternoon for some public relations and spare change. They were fantastic, by the way. I love it when you come upon real talent. The guitar player told me that the three of them were from two different bands so they combined their names to be "Camptown Ponies." She said that they would be playing at a club on N. Loop Sunday night. I signed up for their e-mail list, so I hope that I'll get to catch their act again.
