Caution!

This large reproduction from a Medieval Manuscript invites visitors into the Medieval Monsters show at the Blanton Museum. It's pretty amazing the depictions of monsters as cautionary tales or critters to be slain.

Exterior, Elisabet Ney Museum

The exterior of the Elisabet Ney Museum. It was the sculptress' studio and home. It is located in an Austin Neighborhood called Hyde Park. I can't explain the modern sculpture on the lawn.

Mad King Ludwig

At the Elisabet Ney Museum in Hyde Park, there is a plaster of a sculpture Ney did of Ludwig of Bavaria (the Mad King famous for the castle on which the Disney castle was modeled). Elisabet Ney came from Germany and made sculptures there before doing Texas heroes for the Capitol in Austin as well as the Goddess of Liberty atop our Capitol Dome.

There was a special exhibit of prints by women at the Elisabet Ney Museum last month. My friend Allan and I went on an excursion to see them.

Art in Action

The Blanton Museum has an event called SoundSpace every quarter or so. At this event, a group was performing something that involved the use of cell phones in the atrium. The blue tiles and the white shape in the left corner are parts of works of art. The photographer on the stairs is the final element in this picture. I love capturing museum goers in museums.

Concerto for Gamelan and Orchestra

The multi-cultural music was terrific at the annual SoundSpace event at the Blanton on a recent Sunday.

Blanton Atrium

The Blanton Museum atrium has had the installed artwork Falling Waters (fragment seen here, the blue and white tiles climbing the wall) for a long time. A recent addition to the space is this organic sculpture. I like this particular shot of the two with the stairs and lighting/sky lights of the atrium.

From Ancient to Modern

A recent exhibit at the Blanton Museum brought this ancient sculpture into juxtaposition with two modern museum-goers. I just liked the composition.

Big Pay Day

Bob Dylan got $100 to play the Newport Folk Festival, according to this document at the Bullock Museum. It is part of an exhibitions on big music festivals.

Stevie Ray was an Austin icon

This large photo of Stevie Ray is graced by the presence of "Number One" which was his main performance guitar.

Now that is one bright red hat! It is part of the Stevie Ray Vaughan exhibition at the Bullock Museum here in town. 

Observing the New Blanton Gallery

The Blanton Museum has reorganized and hung its main collection. These two viewers made a nice tableau when we visited. I love it when the visitors and their clothing and the art and colors in the gallery make a sort of painting together.

A legend in his rightful place

Bob Bullock was a legendary Texas politician. The Bullock Museum is named for him.

Welcome to the studio

Here is the other construction at the McNay in San Antonio. This "artist's studio" is made -- 100% -- out of cardboard.

Moderno room

The Blanton Museum has a fine exhibition up about the modernist styles that came to Latin America in the post WWII era. This example of a room with nice decor is interesting to see. 

High five, Alice!

Here you see Linda giving Alice proper respect. This was part of the Alice in Wonderland exhibition at the Ransom Center at the University of Texas.

Dutch boys

The way the light was falling on these boys at the McNay Museum, they looked like a painting by a Dutch master.
