Andra Day

In June, Jackie saw Andra Day in performance at KUTX's Studio 1A. She got a fantastic picture. Here's a music video on YouTube.

Great band!

Our friends Chris Gage, Christine Albert and Ernie Durawa were rocking out the other night at Donn's Depot. Ernie is in the Texas Music Hall of Fame and Christine is the former Chair of the Board of Governors of the American Academy of Recording Artists. Chris has played with house bands for TV shows.

And why is this significant?

Because on most days, there are fifty to one hundred people in line at this BBQ cafe! Shot this on July 4. I think that they were closed.

Texas Chili Parlor

We went to the Texas Chili Parlor the other day for enchiladas. Love sitting at the bar and hearing stories.

Red pineapple

Of all the lost stuff I have seen on city streets in Austin, this one may take the cake.

The new library

This fantastic new library will soon be open and it is only a few blocks from where we live. You see my partner in life taking a shot of her own here.

This says it all

We had to go to a hill country place to meet someone the other day. This motto says it all about the food.

New bar in town!

Linda and I attended the soft opening of  a new restaurant called Boiler Nine in our neighborhood a few nights ago. I took this shot from the catbird seat that they gave us.

Cranes are strutting their stuff.

I love the compositions that cranes and tall buildings make here in the hood.

Glowing wall art

This decorative wall art for the Seaholm Condominums seems to be a brightly painted group of furnace doors salvaged from the old Power Plant.

In Bloom

We had the most outstanding spring, flora-wise, because of the plethora of rain. (Which unfortunately caused lots of flooding around the state.) This magnolia tree had beautiful blooms and very dense leaf.

Pretty in pink.

I thought that these roses were really nice -- saw them on a recent walk.

Rain, rain, rain's a coming!

One thing about being this high up -- you can see the rain a long way off.

Taco Joint Mural

There are a couple of recognizable icons in this mural inside the Keso's taco joint on MLK Boulevard. That bat sculpture is on South Congress, the big star in front of the Bob Bullock museum and the UT stadium and tower. Maybe the cars and bike on the ramp are an homage to F1 and X Games? I can recommend the tacos here in any case.

Mystery Mural

There was a bike shop on West Lynn which is now closed. On the side of the building is this mural. I understand the 'ride' and the bikes and maybe even the racing flags. Less sure about foxes and Mexican symbols and fire.

The Ape is Gone

A gigantic ape used to sit outside this shop on West Sixth Street. When I saw the monumental giraffe, I asked a guy in front of the store if someone bought the ape. "Three of them," he said.

Maybe it will be done in our lifetime--

I know that street construction takes time, but I wish we could have a respite from it sometime soon.
I shot this photo a few weeks ago from the end of our hall.

Looking down, looking good.

Lots of photographers like to have sessions on top of the parking garage directly below us. I thought that this shot would be a good one for the "Looking Down" theme.Click here to see other interpretations of today's theme.
