Asian Crisp Salad is a treat

My go-to dish at The Grove, a restaurant in our neighborhood, is the Asian Crisp Salad -- with chicken and balsamic. I love the textures and flavors -- especially the crispy noodles.

Fond of Fonda San Miguel

We hosted a dinner for the Ballet Austin board and dancers recently at Fonda San Miguel, one of Austin's best restaurants. Colorful flowers and outfits abounded. And the food was terrific as always.

Shake of the Month

A solid choice for Shake of the Month is Fruity Pebbles. We saw this sign at Dirty's Kum Bak -- our favorite hamburger cafe -- the other day.

Tots with truffle oil

Yes, you heard right -- Tater Tots with Truffle Oil -- plus good old-fashioned burgers. Love that Dirty's Kum-Bak in the University of Texas neighborhood.

Wine down under

One of our favorite restaurants is June's All Day on South Congress. They have created a clever wine list that is a book with illustrations and comments about where certain varietals come from. Here you see the selections from New Zealand.

I took this pano shot at Justine's a couple of weeks ago. Love this restaurant. The atmosphere is so festive and it feels like France. They even have a Tabac sign out front.

The big and beautiful flower arrangements at the Four Seasons Hotel are one of their trademarks. It's always nice to see the visual delights being offered in their lobby.

Our pal Liz Morphis was crooning some songs from the Great American Songbook the other night at a fundraiser for the Shoal Creek Conservancy. It was a fun event.

This lady was having her outfit adjusted by a professional photographer at the Art Bra party on a recent evening.

Brave woman.

Art Bra Austin is a cause that we support -- designers around town fashion creative costumes for women who have fought breast cancer to wear. The big party is a fashion show complete with a runway show. We went to the sponsor party for this cause the other night and took some photos of these women who have faced adversity and won.

Can't argue with that.

I'd imagine a lot of people around Austin would agree with this sentiment. Especially after they look at their student loan totals.

"The Nix" Book-signing.

Nathan Hill, shown here, is the author of "The Nix," a terrific book about identity in the digital age. I loved it when I read it and I heard some of his talk at BookPeople, around the corner on a recent night.

Work in Progress

We don't usually walk on the north side of Caesar Chavez across the creek. (Until recently it was impassable because of construction.) Thought I should snap a picture while our building was still in the picture. The cranes are for two more buildings (the Proper and Third+Shoal) rising between the (as yet unopened) Second Street bridge and our place on the right. You can see the Independent going up on the left.

Goose, Goose, Goose

Jackie sees these Lady Bird Lake geese from her apartment but recently got up close for a photo. Today is theme day at City Daily Photo. The theme is nature. Downtown denizens like Jackie and us are often asked if we miss being around nature like people who live on ranches or in the suburbs. Our answer is that nature is a short walk away for the taking.
