We strolled up South Congress the other day to do a little shopping and have some breakfast. At the bus stop, a bike, a golf bag, a slow cooker and some other stuff were abandoned, In any case, no one else was around. We took a different route home so....

Taking her seat at the dais


This photo from the mid-1970s shows the seating of one of the first women to ever hold an Austin City Council seat. Her lapel button says "Uppity Women Unite." Now in her eighties, Emma Lou Linn is still a professor at a local university. The man seating her was part of the old guard.

Beef Tartare -- what a treat


Beef tartare is a perfect nightcap. This version at Fixe, close to our condo, comes with pickled gooseberries, crispy oysters, cornmeal pancakes and celery root remoulade.
