Recycling? Uh, no!

Some joker in our building tried to slip this huge piece of old luggage into a recycling container in our garage. Not gonna happen! Made me furious.

Let's go upstairs

We went to an Easter party and saw this array of cute toys going upstairs in the nice West Austin house where it was held.

My Weather Vane...Soon to Disappear

A building is going up at Fifth and Colorado. People are always asking me about things which block our view or will in the future. I'm most sad about the giant Texas flag that is actually pretty far away in the Texas State Cemetery east of IH35. I like seeing it there and...it tells me which way the wind blows. Since we are only on the tenth floor it doesn't take much height in a nearby building to block something from our view.

Catching Up

When Jackie toured the Austin American-Statesman plant she didn't know if this guy was catching up on the news or doing quality control. There do seem to be some discards in front of him.

Big pour

The equipment being used to pour concrete at the new building south of us presented an otherworldly sight the other night.

Dead Tree Journalism

We get three daily newspapers. Two are produced all or in part at the Austin American-Statesman plant on South Congress beside Lady Bird Lake. Our friend Jackie recently took a tour. This shows a bundle of papers hurrying along the conveyor belt.

It's Beginning to Look Like a Neighborhood

This street at Seaholm looks welcoming but there is still a lot of construction going on. Taken by my friend Jackie a few weeks ago.

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

Sand mandala completion on April 16. It was soon swept away. Art is ephemeral. Buddist Monks were in City Hall this month doing this project.

More landscaping.

Lots of workers were busily planting more bushes outside the burgeoning Seaholm plant development.

Jo's bookreadng

On April 21, my friend Jo Ivester conducted a bookreading at BookPeople in our neighborhood. Her book is titled "The Outskirts of Hope" and is a memoir about the two years she spent in Mound Bayou, Mississippi.

Coming Soon...A Downtown Trader Joe's

It's not open yet but it's promised within a few weeks. This store will be in the retail area of the Seaholm Development. Our friend Jackie sot this on a recent walk. We have two other Trader Joe's in Austin but we are waiting to shop when we can walk there. This is just a few hundred feet from our front door.

Spring!

These poppies, planted at Hotel San Jose on South Congress, herald the season.

Bunny dog

This little pooch was looking kind of doubtful about whether she was passing for an Easter bunny!

Red-headed stranger

Old Willie had Trigger strapped to his back. You'll have to be a country music fan to understand.

Rasta dog!

The Easter parade and dog show on South Congress the other day had some great contestants. Here is a Marley guy.

The homeless tree

A local charity created this tree for the people who have died on Austin's streets in recent years.

Partly cloudy

I stood on my balcony and got this nice shot of a cloud formation the other day.

Cool clouds

A front was blowing in the other day and I caught this dramatic shot from our balcony.

Need help? She has you covered.

I love an entrepreneur. Saw this lady's car on one of our recent walks. She was only too happy to give me a card.

Artistic flora

I love this arrangement of vases by the fresh water in the Marriott lobby.

Relief for our city!

I love this relief map of downtown Austin at the new Marriott behind the concierge desk.

Christmas in March

Our friend Jackie spotted this late last month, abandoned on the sidewalk on Barton Springs Road. It's not exactly a shoe and it probably doesn't even go on a foot but we are including it in the abandoned shoe series!

New lanes on MoPac

These workers in cherry pickers were doing work to hasten the addition of new lanes on MoPac Blvd the other day. We were on one of our Johnson Trail walks.

Look out!

This menacing sea monster looks like a grown-up slinky. We spotted him in the Rainey Street area the other day.

Long lines for SXSW

If you look closely, you'll see that this line snakes all the way around the Butler Dance Education Center. People were waiting for a concert to open up at the Austin Music Hall.

Lighting up the sky!

There were lots of spectacular fireworks a few nights ago. We were able to see the whole show from our balcony.

Our Camera-shy Self Portrait

I love making shop window reflections especially when you can see your stalwart Austin, Texas Daily Photo contributors in them.It is the first of the month and therefore theme day at City Daily Photo. The theme is "My Camera-shy Self Portrait." Appropriate for April Fools Day! Click here to see interpretations of the them from around the world.

This particular example was taken outside the downtown Hilton/555 Residences. There is a satellite store of one of FFP's favorite clothing stores: Capra and Cavelli there. We took this picture and you can see us both with cameras. But I'm taking the picture and further hiding behind the decoration on something in the window.
