Some bird's nest!
Somebody's old mattress wound up in a tree after a recent downpour. I wish people would not chunk items into the creeks. My guess is that some homeless person was probably using this mattress to sleep on and it washed away.

I Lost My Head
Look up when visiting Uncommon Objects on SoCo and you might find some taxidermy you can get without killing anything.

Clever Decoration
Chuy's has always been known for clever decoration using old collections of stuff. Noticed the other day that the one on Barton Springs sports old speakers from drive-in movies on its railing. Remember those? They would hang in your car window and bring a crackling sound track to the movie on a giant screen while everyone else sat in their cars watching with you but in their own little cocoon.

Uncommonly Second Place
One of the most fun places on South Congress, Uncommon Objects, had a clever window display when we walked by last Sunday. Sad little vintage paintings of, um, questionable quality were 'awarded' various vintage second place ribbons. Priceless.

Theme Day: Metal
We are soon leaving our big yard and its junk metal musicians behind. This is a detail of the innards of the sousaphone player. I've shown you some of this sculpture before. The French horn player here and the trumpet player here. Since I soon won't own that backyard I thought it most appropriate for theme day to show it. We are probably leaving most of the band behind for the new owners but we are probably selling the trumpet player since we found a willing buyer. The City Daily Photo group always has a theme day on the first of the month. This month's theme is metal
