This child rode in the fire engine in the Veterans Day Parade. She appears to have a "Super" log on her shirt and was very seriously waving her flag.

A Work of Art

Here is FFP posing in this stunning work by artist Josef Kristofoletti. According the Austin's Art in Public Places: "Topping ten stories tall, Tau Ceti creates a stunning optic experience as sunlight from surrounding buildings refract and correspond with the painted gradient color spectrum throughout the day. Tau Ceti references a single star in the constellation Cetus (pronounced: see tus) that is spectrally similar to our own sun." This is at the corner of Brazos and East Second.

Guard Dog

It always amuses me to see dogs come to the window of a house to mark our passing on foot.

Lawbreakers

The law our city council says that children under 18 have to wear helmets and there can be no more than one person on a scooter. Yeah. Right. And when that kid gets thrown to the pavement, who will pick up the bill at the hospital? The taxpayers of Austin.

Hard to believe we have been down here for over 11 years now. The tallest building is where we live.

Sitting In

It's such a delight when our friend Butch Miles, a legendary drummer, sits in at Parker Jazz Club. We love jazz, but getting to know players and their stories enhances the experience.

Solitary man

This gent had the lake to himself, it would seem.

Where Once the Trains Ran

It's easy to forget standing amidst the downtown skyscrapers that trains used to run along the south side of Third Street. But next to the pedestrian bridge across Shoal Creek where Third deadends there is an old railway bridge. Vines and weeds are trying to take it over. (There is still a train track that crossed Lady Bird Lake and circles around to the west to travel up the middle of Mopac eventually.)

Jenga Blues

The Independent Condos which will open soon, reflecting the blue skies and clouds recently.  Because of its unusual stacking and jutting floors, it is called the Jenga Building. It is right across Shoal Creek from our building. It is the first of the month and so it is theme day. The theme is 'blue.' Click here to see what other people have selected for the theme day.

From a Certain Angle...

Walking across the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge, there is a certain spot where our building still looms up (beyond the salvia). Many of the buildings in this picture have arrived since we moved here.

Ready the Rebar

With another high rise in the background, these workers ready the rebar for the pour of a column on another office building.

Old and New

The Hoffbrau Steaks on West Sixth is towered over by our building and The Independent (the top of which didn't even make my picture). Other newish buildings are also visible. This restaurant has been around since 1934!

Oh happy day!

I like this photo I took of a little girl skipping along at the Farmers' Market. I also like how our building is reflected on the Google building's facade. Urban environment meets the farmers.

Natural beauty

Here is a sunrise that I captured from our balcony on a recent morning. I love the oranges and blues.

There we are!

We have been living down here for ten years and it's still hard to believe that the building you see to the right center here is our home. It's the one with the needle on top. The building to the right of ours is the tallest residential-only building west of the Mississippi.

Review this view

This is the view from the end of our hall now. This building will soon house a lot of Facebook employees. It is just across the street from us and well, so much for our view from that end of the building!

We had dinner with two of our pals a few weeks ago. This Asian restaurant has terrific food - it's called Lin. Tasty!
