This sign shows it all

For once, we were across the street from this store so I thought that I would

shoot a photo of their sign. They are the best costume shop in town.

Pizza Sign Recycled

This pizza joint on Brazos Street (The Onion) has a sign that looks like it reused whatever was there before...Western something. Way to recycle.

Once Upon a Steak

There used to be a couple of locally-owned restaurants around Austin that were destinations in the sixties and seventies.The original Night Hawk stood at Riverside and Congress. In Threadgill's downtown some vintage Night Hawk neon flashes hawk wings in the bar. The Frisco Shop by Night Hawk at Burnet and Koenig survived the demise of the little empire and then was razed to build a chain drugstore. It re-emerged in a location further north on Burnet serving the same hamburgers with history.

Alas No Cable or Even a Motel for That Matter

This sign is all that remains of a 'motor court' (aka motel) that once graced South Congress.

Bevo Neon

There is a cool Men's Clothing store on South Congress called Luther's. They are decorated with old signs, an engine and such. On the side is this Longhorn proclaiming a National Championship. Well, the football team had one a few years back but I don't know if this sign is new or old as there is no year on it.

Fun From the Past

This is the sign for a place on South First (Roadhouse Relics) that sells signs, neon and otherwise, and other ad relics from the past. It would be interesting to know what the Indian was touting in his past life.

Room Service Vintage

There is a little shopping district on the eastern part of North Loop (which honestly isn't a loop and is pretty central these days) that has included various vintage stores and other little independent shops over the years. A collectibles shop called Hog Wild, a place called Music Exchange (where you can buy used instruments and consign same) and this store, Room Service Vintage, have been the stalwarts.

Pharmacy and Lunch Counter...Still Operating

FFP and I were at Jeffrey's Monday and I stepped outside to take a picture of Nau's weathered sign. They haven't done much to the sign or building but inside is a neighborhood pharmacy and a lunch counter. I haven't been there in a while. FFP made an important (to his career) business contact at the lunch counter years ago. This is on West Lynn and 12th in the Clarksville/Old West Austin neighborhood.
