Bike Selfie

These bikers were getting a selfie at the Ai Weiwei sculpture that was on the Butler Trail one day last month. Hope they got a picture they liked because the sculpture was temporary and is gone now.

If It Stays There Long Enough

This abandoned bike in the West Campus area had lost its front wheel and had been painted purple, along with the attached bike rack.

Appropriate placement

Some bike rider decided that this admonishing sign would be a perfect place to abandon his trusty steed. I hope that this practice of just throwing your bike down anywhere will stop soon. 

Biking is fun, but maybe a kayak?

This little guy was speeding up and down the Butler Hike and Bike trail on Lady Bird Lake but paused to check out some kayakers.

I wish they'd read these and act on them

Austin now has bikes for public use at various places downtown. These instructions are on the handlebars. Too bad they rarely get followed. We are constantly having to share the sidewalk with bike riders and on several occasions we have almost been injured.

Seems that bicycles have interesting colors in interesting places these days. And they cast some great shadows.

We saw this memorial bike the other day on the Congress Avenue bridge.

After some recent rain Shoal Creek had been reduced to a trickle but these bikers still had to gingerly get across to continue on the trail.

Transportation to Fun Fun Fun Fest

We didn't go to Fun Fun Fun Fest but we did walk by. So many people arrived by bike that the racks provided were exhausted and bikes were also chained all along the Drake Ped bridge. This is a view of the sea of bikes attached to racks near Auditorium Shores.

Another way to get around Lady Bird Lake is to pedal these water bikes.

Going Nowhere to Raise Money

These guys are part of a group on Second Street riding in place to raise money for fighting cancer. In this case, they get a pass for riding on the sidewalk.

Bicycle Racks Needed

Bicycle riders are not always my friends (the ones on the sidewalk and running stop signs and lights when I'm in the crosswalk, for example) but I recognize it as a eco-friendly and efficient way to get around if done properly. Therefore I appeal to the city, property owners, etc. for more bike racks. This mash up was during SXSW and bike parking seemed to be at a premium like everything else. I spend most of my time defending pedestrians as walking is my passion and frequent mode of transportation, but the bike riders need to speak out about parking.

Ghost Bike on Pfluger Bridge

Ghost bikes are usually chained to something near the spot of a fatal biking accident. This one is chained to the Pfluger Bridge, however, where only bikes or pedestrians are allowed. We've seen other ghost bikes here, here and here.
