Coffee Boost

That same doughnut trailer from yesterday offers CDB Coffee. I don't know about that. Caffeine is my drug.

A crossword break

Here is a shot I took at Arturo's Underground Cafe Wednesday morning of Linda working a crossword puzzle over a breakfast taco and coffee. Typical coffee house art looms in the background.

Instant Coffee Shop

SXSW brings lots of temporary buildings to vacant lots. This is a pop-up coffee shop. Unfortunately they weren't open or maybe I could have gotten some free coffee! I think it was a promotion of HBO for the new Lena Dunham series "Girls."

New Coffee Downtown

There are many ways to get a cuppa downtown. Honestly, we don't buy too much coffee except with meals because we have a fancy machine that grinds, tamps, brews one cup at a time in our condo. But coffee shops are a great place for breaks when you are out walking. New to downtown (with a couple of other Austin locations) is Caffé Medici in the Austonian. They have a big red espresso machine.

Coffee, Quick

Austin has lots of local coffee shops or at least local chains to satisfy your coffee needs without going to that big chain out of Seattle. BrevitĂ  is on South Lamar next to a couple of trailers, including that Donut trailer, Gourdough's. You can get a coffee here to go with it or even drive through on your way to work.

Coffee Trailer

A while back we were in East Austin seeking some unusual art adventures. We parked near this trailer. It took me a moment, given the cactus font, to realize this was a coffee trailer...called "Trailer Perk."

Not in Europe

Happily, in the 36 years since I first visited Europe, cafe life has been somewhat simulated here. Back in 1972 coming home from across the Atlantic for a Texan meant giving up a lovely coffee drink like this in the morning and a perfect little cup of black magic after dinner. There was very little sitting on sidewalks having food and drink. Now we pay homage to that a lot, at least in the large cities in Texas. This setting was Taverna on Second. I'm not sure who invented the Mimosa (or the one dollar one on Sunday morning served here!) but they also serve Bellinis (also a buck on Sunday) and that's Italian like Taverna.
