Linda had this foie gras appetizer at the Garrison restaurant in The Fairmont the other night. She loved it.

We enjoyed a nice dinner at Garrison with friends the other night. This avocado appetizer was pretty on the plate. And it tasted great.

Good food and good friends!
We had dinner with two of our pals a few weeks ago. This Asian restaurant has terrific food - it's called Lin. Tasty!

Tortilla Soup
One of the best versions of this soup anywhere can be found at Fonda San Miguel, a premier local restaurant. Just spicy enough and so good on a rainy day.

Dining on Dover Sole
We love this Friday night special at Le Politique, the restaurant just around the corner from our home. Dover sole with lemon sauce and capers. Delicious!

Just for the halibut
Here is a delicious halibut dish I enjoyed at Jeffrey's, one of Austin's finest restaurants, the other night. I loved every bite.

We took a break from posting on Austin Daily Photo the other night to have drinks and dinner with friends. I took this photo of Linda's Manhattan.

Trailer Food
A trailer on South Lamar offers a very uptown casual menu. Click to enlarge and read the details of the Velvet Elvis.

Pleasant "Back Yard"
You have your succulent garden with some Xeriscape (although that beautiful green lawn requires some water, you bet). You have your hammock where you can just view Lady Bird Lake. Nice, huh? But, no, it's not my yard nor anyone else's but in the public area behind Austin's Four Seasons Hotel. I don't think I've ever seen anyone taking a nap, though. But doesn't it look tempting? FFP and I had lunch at the Trio Cafe before he did an interview of their sommelier. ("As long as you are going over there," I said. It's fun, but expensive, to be able to walk to all these places for lunch or dinner or, for that matter, breakfast.)

Not in Europe
Happily, in the 36 years since I first visited Europe, cafe life has been somewhat simulated here. Back in 1972 coming home from across the Atlantic for a Texan meant giving up a lovely coffee drink like this in the morning and a perfect little cup of black magic after dinner. There was very little sitting on sidewalks having food and drink. Now we pay homage to that a lot, at least in the large cities in Texas. This setting was Taverna on Second. I'm not sure who invented the Mimosa (or the one dollar one on Sunday morning served here!) but they also serve Bellinis (also a buck on Sunday) and that's Italian like Taverna.

Taste a Bit
It's not news to my frequent visitors that we love Taste Select Wines. However, we just eat their great food and order bottles or glasses from the menu. The retail section has a lot of automated tasting machines and a blackboard with news, though, and I thought it photographed well (sorry about the flahs spot, though). I already showed you chef Bill with his spiky mohawk.
