Magnifico Risotto.

Nothing like a great risotto at a fine restaurant. This one served at Prelog's downstairs had shrimp as well.

Lots of people wanted to go to the ball! I took this photo after Ballet Austin's Cinderella not long ago.

People like Mathew in this town. This custom clothing place on South First features murals of different movie scenes and this one is of Mathew in "Dazed and Confused."

Here's Looking at You!

Lance Letscher is a collage artist whose work we like. He normally works with cut paper and books but this enormous piece is done from metal scraps and now adorns the side of South Congress Books. Go inside the bookstore and find original pieces and books of his art for purchase as well as an eclectic group of ephemera like old rock posters and used books, some priceless first editions, others just fun discounted reads.

Towering Symbol

We've probably posted lots of shots of the UT Tower. I like this ones of the steps from the east side of campus. That's FFP in the picture. And a sculpture that makes you go 'hmmm!'

Hierarchy

We are always snapping pictures of turtles sunning on Lady Bird Lake. Jackie recently captured this one. She was wondering how they decide the hierarchy on the log!

Parry's Agave

Jackie captured this with her walking buddy observing the plant's outlandish display. (Near the Mexican American Cultural Center and sharing the space with a part of the Tejano Trail musicians tribute.) She says
We were thrilled to see the gaudy agave blooming at the Mexican American Art Center. I didn’t get a close-up, but it had been mobbed by bees, which is partly why my friend looks so astounded. I read that there’s a sweet liquid at the base of each bloom. And like all agaves, the plant only blooms once before dying (but leaves pups to continue the cycle).

Sweet Sentiment

Jackie shot this the other day and offered it to the Dailly Photo stream. I had recently shot a picture of it, too. We think it's new on the wall outside Threadgill's downtown location.

This month your intrepid chroniclers of Austin celebrate forty years of marriage. Here is a shop window reflection from South Congress with a Day of the Dead bridge and groom.

Blue Hole

We usually keep the pictures in the City Limits of Austin, but this lovely picture of Blue Hole in nearby Wimberley was too nice to pass up. Thanks, Jackie.

Rope, Recycled

Orly Genger uses recycled lobstermen rope and paint to create giant outdoor sculptures. Jackie shot this picture near the Waller Creek mouth on Lady Bird Lake. Genger had an installation at Laguna Gloria a couple of years ago recorded here on Daily Photo.

Stubbs To Go

The Mean-Eyed Cat Bar on West Fifth serves up Stubbs Barbeque. Jackie has been partaking when she's in the neighborhood. She says:
The brisket plate, with cole slaw and serrano cheese spinach was ample and photogenic. I later discovered it was all delicious.
Now I have to try it.

Big City

Jackie shot this from the Fourth Floor of a Foundation Communities project on South Lamar. Looks like a big city, doesn't it? Jackie says
[Fountation Commities} “provide[s] people with an affordable, attractive place to call home, as well as opportunities right at their doorstep to transform their lives.” They’re building new apartments at 2300 South Lamar, on a former car lot, and I was fortunate to take a hardhat tour. It’s going to be a huge asset to its tenants and to the neighborhood.

Parker Millsap

We went with Jackie in April to see Parker Millsap at Antone's.  She got this picture. Antone's is ensconced in a new venue on East. Fifth.

Here is President Obama being interviewed by Austin's own Evan Smith at SXSW in March. Thanks to Jackie for this one.

What's that Smell?

This star jasmine aroma almost knocks you over when it's in full bloom. When we were walking about a week ago, we kept coming across massive plantings of this vine. It's theme day at City Daily Photo. Click here for other interpretations of the theme which is smell. (Everyone is trying to convey smell with a photo.)
