Carrie Rodriguez sings and plays
Local entertainer Carrie Rodriguez did a concert at the Long Center's Rollins Theater the other night. On the right, playing guitar, is her husband. The bass player is a stellar musician who was in Leonard Cohen's backup band for many years.

Book promotion
The author of this book must live in this Clarksville bungalow. Or maybe the owner here is just a friend.

Blue Lapis Light rehearses
The performers from Blue Lapis Light, a local aerial dance company, were trying out new numbers the other day on the old Seaholm plant stacks.

More jazz
This jazz quartet was playing the Four Seasons lounge on a recent Friday night. The trumpet player is a neurosurgeon by day. Quite a guy.

Jazzing it up
We enjoyed terrific jazz at the Elephant Room the other night -- here you see Andre Heyward on trombone. He is an internationally-known player who has performed with the likes of Wynton Marsalis.

Grackle clock
This custom-designed and crafted clock is in the new library. It features likenesses of grackles, among the prevalent species of fowl in Austin.

Lots of room in the library
This dramatic shot is looking down from an upper floor in the new library. We cannot wait for it to open so we can use the services. As you can see, there were several batches of people looking around the place.

Hear ye, hear ye!
We were given a tour of the new fancy library in downtown Austin the other day. Here is a shot in the auditorium that they will be able to use for civic events. It is about a two block walk from our place.

Choc it up!
These tasty treats were being served at a surprise birthday party for a good friend a few weeks ago. Dig in! Tempting indeed!

We were sponsors back in this day
I think that this poster is from 1996 or 1997-- at any rate, we sponsored this performance trough our ad agency called Good Right Arm Advertising, as you can see. I had not noticed this poster on the wall at Ballet Austin until just a few weeks ago.

Fancy, fancy!
Every time we walk on the Shoal Creek Trail, we see some fine new additions to the visual appeal. This wall displays some great stone work. You see my partner in life walking by it here.

Welcome, friends!
We hosted our annual movie party in August-- it took a while to get this photo up. Two great films on the program. Here we are outside the theater.

Another mural!
We were walking down the Drag the other day and saw this mural for the first time. ("Taco Bell loves Austin.") Lots of good artists in town.

Happy trails!
We saw this plaque on the Hike and Bike Trail the other day -- it is dedicated to Janet Fish who did so much to make the trail happen.

Burgerlicious!
Oh my, but this Fixe Burger hits the spot -- the meat is some of the best I have ever tasted in a burger. Short rib, brisket and chuck. Plus a secret sauce!

Modern look
Interesting to see these modern-looking houses going in next to 1940s style cottages. This one is in Old West Austin.

The devil went down to Texas
That's the name of an old song. I think it's what the owners of this well-known sign shop had in mind here.

Don't want to run into this guy!
I know that these "spikes on wheels" rigs have been around for a while, but they still give me pause.

R.I.P.
A good friend of ours recently died in a freak accident. There was a wake for him at a local bar that was a favorite of his. About 200 people attended. Here is an impromptu shrine that was set up for him. He was the fellow on the left in the two-shot portrait shown here.

Quit Monkeying Around
It's the first of the month and, as always, theme day at City Daily Photo. The theme is 'Photographing the Photographer' and so I offer this shop window. There are two of your Austin, Texas Daily Photo correspondents. I'm shooting both our pictures, reflected in a shop window. On our walks around downtown Austin we do put our phones away and enjoy reality, but if I spy a promising reflection, I'm sure to whip out my phone for a picture. Meanwhile, FFP checks for important emails. Click here for other interpretations of this theme.
