The multi-cultural music was terrific at the annual SoundSpace event at the Blanton on a recent Sunday. 

Independent vision

Here you see the Independent, a new building in the neighborhood. When done, it will be the tallest residential-only building west of the Mississippi. Of oucrse, as you can see, it is informally known as the "Jenga Building."

Succulent Trout with Succotash

I loved this trout dish that I had at a local restaurant not long ago. Sweet potato succotash was delicious and the fish was juicy and cooked just right.

Here is another entry in the show by Gail Chovan at Women and Their Work Gallery. It included (fake) limbs, hair (yes, human), leather and teeth. The show's title was "No Trace of Now Will Remain."

Good thoughts here. Lots of people made elaborate signs for the Women's March last month. We took a lot of photos during the event.

Two girls gave us these little handwritten slips at the Women's March on Jan. 20th. I'll save them for later use. 

It's always time for cookies.

And not the kind that rattle around in your computer. This cookie stand was set up at the Women's March a few weeks ago. They were doing a brisk business.

I'm going to post a series of photos that I took at the Women's March up Congress Avenue a few weeks ago. Here's one of some women who went to a lot of trouble to make these costumes and then assemble for the parade.

Jazzing it up at Parker

Parker is a beautiful new venue in Downtown Austin, a few blocks from our house. We love jazz and this place is so comfortable and nice. Here you see owner Kris Kimura playing flute.

Second Street Art

This sculpture is outside the movie theater in downtown that we like so much. Yeah, well, "Keeping Austin Weird" is a way of life!

Another run, coming up!

Our friend Mayor Steve Adler recently made his kickoff speech for his upcoming run for a second term. He's a good campaigner. 

Couple at the Capitol

Along with this couple, we were enjoying the nice weather and wandering through the State Capitol grounds on a recent Sunday.

Mad Greens!

These young folks were working away at the new Mad Greens cafe in our neighborhood the other day. Nice place for lunch -- wraps, salads, etc. They were very efficient and the salads were tasty.

Mix Master?

This contraption on a job site caught our attention the other day. We think it is a fancy cement mixer. But who knows?

Now this is a real workout!

We were on the IH-35 bridge the other day and saw these strong young men pulling oars on these boats. My guess is that they are on the University of Texas rowing team. They weren't just idly meandering upstream, that's for sure.

Thanks to Ann Butler for her donation which funded this outlook station off the Boardwalk. It provides a terrific view of the downtown skyline. Sometimes I cannot believe that this is my little town. Ms. Butler also provided a lot of other funding for the trail system.

Good advice!

The city-maintained trails are indeed our gym -- we get a lot of exercise for our tired old bodies on them. I'm glad that they exist. We saw this sign on the Boardwalk the other -- it is a fancy trail on the south shore of Lady Bird Lake. 

Tired? Yeah, tired of second place!

I loved the signs this woman and her daughters had for the Women's March on Jan. 20th. From the look on her face, the littlest one isn't tired at all.
