In the net

Loved this assemblage that shows how over time the world collects up society's wasted material.

Says it all

This painting depicts in graphic form the underpinnings of society -- the people who keep fancy museums and buildings open for the affluent strata of society to enjoy.

Enchilada heaven.

Now this is a plate of enchiladas! Venison chili, no less. At the Austin Chili Parlor, where else!

Scoot out of my way, scooters!

Yes, the plague of scooters has come to Austin. Now we will have to put up with them strewn all over the sidewalks.

Sweet! Sweetbreads.

Loved this take on sweetbreads at Wink the other night. The seared sweetbreads were served with fried yucca and duck egg. Delicious!

Critters in a Canoe

Last month when some friends visited we took them shopping for some odd stuff. At a North Austin taxidermy, flag and bone dealer these stuffed critters were available, posed as if piloting a canoe.

They Don't Just Magically Appear

Pedicabs don't just materialize downtown during the busy times. They are hauled to the east side for storage. We saw this trailer over that way the other day anyway.

Art or Construction?

Walking by Waller Creek the other day near the new Fairmont and the Convention Center, I thought I'd spied a field of strange pink wildflowers. Or maybe a stand of plastic flamingoes! But they really appeared to be a bunch of little flags like you'd put out for a sprinkler system. Was it art? Sometimes it's hard to say.

Texas Footwear

We were at an event the other night. I don't think there was a Texas theme, but, nonetheless, these boots were part of a lady's nice outfit.

I saw this message on the side of a medical clinic in East Austin the other day.

Socks on the rocks

We were walking home from the movies the other day and saw these socks that had been abandoned on a downtown sidewalk. Someone might be able to use these!

Pop-up still up.

This pop-up structure that was erected for SXSW is still around. It was a display area for Independent Film. Very sleek design.

Red, red roses

I loved the sight of these roses on a recent walk we took around a downtown neighborhood.

Until next year -- The Mighty Texas Dog Walk

I couldn't resist putting one last canine cutie into the mix. I'll try to take more photos at next year's Mighty Texas Dog Walk.

Waggin' along!

This cute dog had his own personal wagon in the Mighty Texas Dog Walk.

A colorful pair, indeed.

This dog and master had on matching outfits, as you can see. Some people went to a lot of trouble to get dolled up for the Mighty Texas Dog Walk.

Stuffed into a fancy car

One classic car owner had some stuffed dogs to show off the other day at the Mighty Texas Dog Walk.

He's not lion!

This had on a lion's mane the other day at The Mighty Texas Dog Walk. Does that make him the "Mane Man"?

The Mighty Texas Dog Walk has held near the lake on a recent Saturday. Here is the Grand Marshal -- a rescue dog named Kaxan who is the mascot of KXAN-TV.

Pollen Count High

Our area has tons of Live Oak trees. They drop these pollen bundles that turn into yellow dust this time of year. (Just after they push out their slick dead leaves, replaced immediately with green ones.) There is always a danger when you leave your car parked for a while. In this case, there was a deluge of pollen for this car in Old West Austin.

Coral Honeysuckle

Spring is well underway in Austin. Saw this growing up a telephone pole in Old West Austin.

Black is the Chosen Color

Today is the first of the month. (And Easter and April Fools Day for that matter.) But the first of the month brings them day to City Daily Photo and the theme is 'One Color.' I caught this young lady recently dining in one of our favorite restaurants. She and her companions were wearing black clothing with just the odd white or gray stripe. But, even more interesting: even her tattoo is black. Click here to see other interpretations of the 'One Color' theme from around the world.
