Batty art

Love this painting of a bat under the Congress Avenue Bridge. Someone had to stand in a boat to paint it, I guess. Well done!

Racks of kayaks!

If you want to go kayaking on Lady Bird Lake, they have just about any color you would like.

New stretch of the trail

Can't remember if we had already posted a shot of this, but this fancier bit of sidewalk under the Congress Avenue Bridge makes things a lot safer for oldsters like us.

Bands galore

I love to see all these signs around town on lampposts. Can't say that I have ever heard of any of these bands, but I'll bet some younger people will enjoy the concert.

Lots of gala fun!

Here we are (outside positions) with two friends before going to the Paramount gala not long ago.

Fee, Fie, Foie!

This delicious example of foie gras on brioche was being served up at Le Politique the other night. Really tasty!

New lights on the subject

We love eating at Fonda San Miguel -- and they always seem to have wonderful new touches to the interior. These light fixtures are new-- and really pretty.

Saucy signs

Some juicy words for thought on this car in old west Austin.

Yard art -- strutting around

We saw this cock of the walk in a Clarksville yard the other day. He is eyeing that bug next to him!

Look familiar?

Any student who ever lived "off campus" at any college will recognize a front porch like this one. This is the Seneca House in West Campus near the University of Texas.

Sign of the times at Dirty Martin's

One of Austin's great old burger joints has some serious competition on the Drag, so they have upped their game with mixed drinks.

Just for the halibut

I dined on this wonderful halibut dish at Jeffrey's the other night-- it had mussels and artichokes on the plate with the fish.

Great icons of Austin

This one is a nonsensical but cute figure that is a part of Austin lore. It is on a building just off of the Drag or as the formal title goes, Guadalupe Street.

Shady spot downtown

Lots of people in downtown Austin are flocking to this fancy new food court just off Congress Avenue. It even has a big place to eat outside with a shade structure.

Nice lunch

We were invited to a nice lunch at a new east side eatery the other day where we were treated tor a taste of a new Zach Scott play. Here you see us with our friends Karin and William.

On a trek

I love simple things like being out for a walk with my best pal, my wife. It always makes me feel good to see her in front of me.

Our little town

I like to keep posting shots like this one. As an old-timer around Austin, I never fail to marvel at how our town has grown.

Typical Austin

There's a story here. For years, a scraggly little piece of scrub brush poked up from this cut in the sidewalk on Fourth Street. No doubt, they had to go to extra expense to carve this semi-circle in the sidewalk instead of just cutting the thing down.

Foie gras, tuna and ailoi

Loved this spicy and texture-filled dish the other night at Soto. What a great new place to eat.

This salmon is hot!

We went with some pals to a new restaurant called Soto the other night. Loved this hot salmon dish with its own flame.

Welcome to us!

Our pals at Fixe had this place at the bar ready for us the other night -- complete with this framed photo! They always make us feel at home.

Destinations

I think that this street art is to warn people the dumping liquids here will lead to pollution of the creek system.

The old and the new.

This old house that our Heritage Society has been promising to fix up for many years sits in the shadow of the new Fairmont Hotel.

A new mural

We saw this new mural at a downtown location the other day. Very hip.

Fried chicken on the Fourth!

Well, we ate it a few weeks ago at Fixe, but there's a lot to be said for an All-American dish on this date.

Me and My Pack

These ladies were escorting a large pack of friendly dogs across Zilker the other day.

Um...OK

This T-Shirt can be purchased at the Capra and Cavelli clothing shop in the Hilton Convention Center Hotel. I'm not sure what to think of it.

Theme Day -- Team Art Bra spirit!

I took this shot of the final runway parade at the Art Bra fundraiser. These women all have breast cancer -- some are "lifers" in Stage 4 -- they showed a lot of spirit in facing their disease with strength and good humor. We thought that this would be a good photo for this "Spirit" Theme Day. Click here to see other interpretations of this theme from around the world.
