Yeah, well, I like to update my photos of the skyline once in a while. I love our town.

Mushroom madness

Strange -- someone threw out a bunch of mushrooms on the Great Lawn in Zilker Park a few days ago. I don't think that they picked them off of a pizza!

A great book

This historical novel about Cathay Williams was written by a good friend of ours. The book's subject
was an African-American who enlisted in the Union Army after the Civil War. By the way, she posed as a man.

NYT Saturday crossword

I was proud that Linda finished the Saturday NY Times Crossword the other day. Great job. Did you know that Sinatra was in the Hoboken Four?

We aren't in Paris, but . . .

we can still enjoy some Madeleines. These orange flavored treats were tasty.

"In the future . . .

I will act rather than speak." At least I think that is what this means.

Hello, Old Pal!

This is a Campari-based drink that we discovered. It is indeed called Old Pal. Tasty after a hard night of enjoying entertainment. This one was served up at Le Politique.

International Fare

The food trailers in Austin aren't all BBQ and tacos. This one offered Venezuelan treats.

Ride 'em sea horses!

These kids were having fun riding sea horses at the Austin birthday party. Their parents were on hand to make sure they stayed safe on these creatures.

Digging deep

Her is a shot of the site where a large building imploded a few months ago. Now it's being dug out for a new structure. I took this shot when I was in the Headliners Club for lunch a few weeks ago.

Special meaning

This vertical piece of glass that has an "Open" sign on it is located where a newsstand used to be in 1966 on Guadalupe Street, across from the University of Texas. Along with two of my friends, I was standing just to the right of it, when a bullet came past my right ear and killed a man who was in the doorway of the newsstand. It is a memory that I have tried to shake for 52 years now.

Study time -- tests are coming up!

I took a walk around the UT campus the other day and saw these students absorbing knowledge. Took me back to my days in college.

I guess I post too many of these, but gosh, I love looking at my hometown's changing skyline.

Stacked up!

I just love shooting photos of our new and tallest condo tower. This is the Independent and yes, it is now the tallest residential only building west of the Mississippi.

Big and brassy

The Austin Jazz Band played at the Elephant Room the other night. How they all got on the stage is beyond me.

Lunch Money?

This construction worker, likely working on the 70 Rainey project, uses this old phone booth reimagined into an ATM for late-night partiers although he's probably looking for some cash for a food truck for lunch.

Google Fiber?

FFP walks by the Google Fiber Building on Second Street. That's their mural.

Art in Action

The Blanton Museum has an event called SoundSpace every quarter or so. At this event, a group was performing something that involved the use of cell phones in the atrium. The blue tiles and the white shape in the left corner are parts of works of art. The photographer on the stairs is the final element in this picture. I love capturing museum goers in museums.

Teach your dancers well.

Today is Theme Day -- "Teach" is the subject. The Ballet Austin headquarters building is across the street from our condo tower. We often walk by and see the dancers in class. Here is a photo that Linda shot of some dancers being put through their paces and sharpening their craft with instruction by the artistic staff. If you want to see how others interpreted this theme, click here.
