Art Seen

This display was in a window on West Sixth in a row of bars. Old TVs and such. With images of video games? A label said it was a work of  'Art Seen Alliance.' As the calendar turns over into a new year, it is appropriate that we look back at old technology.

Burdened Mural

Not sure what this mural signifies. (It's behind the Brick Oven Restaurant on Red River.) But the whale and, if I'm honest, the punk, look burdened by modern life.

Great food and fun times!

That's us on the right. We had a great time eating at The Carpenters Hall, a local restaurant, the other night. Good pals and delicious food.

Chicken schnitzel

A friend ordered this dish at The Carpenter Hall restaurant the other night and gave me taste. It has black garlic chimichurri sauce on it. Wow-- so good.

Our favorite jazz club -- Parker -- has a Twenties Night each Tuesday. The "Wasabi Big Band" plays amazing tunes from that era.

New Art From Old

The underpass for the railroad and Third Street on North Lamar has had a public artwork for quite some time. (It can be seen in the background of this picture.) The structures resembled traffic signs with signature blue and white tones, set at various angles. Recently, an artist friend of ours collaborated with another artist to temporarily intervene on that artwork. Read all about it here.

There's No Place Like Rhone...

for the Holidays? At June's All Day on South Congress, an employee carefully posts the specials on Rhone Reds! The river and region map is a nice touch, too.

FFP waits for me while I take a picture of the succulents outside Farm to Market grocery on South Congress. Might make a great gift for a friend.

Not Just Books

South Congress Books had this vignette on one of their shelves recently. It's not just books at this wonderful shop: there are art, collectibles, and artifacts. This is a great place to shop if you are in Austin.

Among the decorations for sale last month at the Settlement Home Garage Sale was this Santa sax player. Several pals of ours could have used it!

Tis the Season

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And at Tesoros Trading on South Congress even the skeletons are in the spirit.

Watchdogs

Walking through Old West Austin, we encountered these three watchdogs. The two in front barked vociferously and the poodle was drawn up to full impressive height the whole time we walked by. The dog on the porch was so still and silent I thought at first it wasn't real.

More Fall Walking

Also in Old West Austin, FFP walks along by some yellow foliage.

Fall Colors

As you could see yesterday in FFP's picture of Elm Street, Austin got some fall colors this year. Here he is walking through Old West Austin on that walk near some bright red foliage. A lot of the trees in Austin are Live Oaks. They push off brown leaves and instantly replace them. Kind of a deciduous evergreen! But we do have some maples, elms and others that can produce pretty colors. However, to make a nice display it requires a good deal of rain right before fall and an early cold snap. We had both this year.

We donate to the Paramount Theater, which is located on our town's main street, and one of the perks is that they put our names up in lights.
