Our happy party

We had a nice meal with some friends at Vespaio the other night. Lots of fun! Great food!

Brazen bird

This bird sculpture has a lot of points going for it. It is outside of a gallery on West Sixth.

A man and his car

I love to see photo shoots going on atop the parking garage across from us.

A good friend of ours was on the cover of this neighborhood magazine recently.

Beet salad is upbeat

I love this beet salad that was served at Peche the other night. Lots of contrasts in flavors and textures. Very tasty.

Fig Manhattan

Linda had a sample of this delicious drink the other night at Peche--and it was much to her liking.

Downtown Mural

This mural is near Congress Avenue on East 8th Street. That's my better half walking by on a warm January day.

Rosewood

The Rosewood restaurant is in a historic old house on the East Side. It is located at the fork of East 11th and Rosewood.

Symbols

This mural (in the garden area of the old house that is home to the Rosewood restaurant) is probably packed with meaning. The house on the right appears to be the old house.

Please Breathe

On what used to be West Second and is now called Electric Avenue on this side of the old Power Plant, is the terminus of the railroad bridge across Lady Bird Lake. A Graffiti tagger has encouraged us to breathe. A train was rumbling overhead screeching into the curve.

Love this bar

We stopped by the bar in Hotel San Jose for a quick drink the other night. A pleasant space where quiet conversation is the norm. Liked the ambiance.

Hitting some guitar licks.

It took this shot of Tommy Howard making his guitar sing the other night at Church on Monday.

Smash and grab

Always sad to see the result of someone's car being robbed. Too bad people can't behave better.

Loving what you do

I was trying to find an appropriate photo for Valentine's Day. This man seems to love what he does, so I thought I'd post it. Love appears in a lot of forms.

Tell it like it is!

This South Congress store posts negative posts on a sign outside their front door.

At the bookstore

This young lady is a lot more flexible than I am. She was poring over a selection at South Congress  Books the other day.

An Austin Memory

Thought I would throw in some nostalgia. This is from Eeyore's Birthday party, probably in 1969 or 1970, in Eastwoods Park, just north of the UT campus. This Austin tradition is now held in a bigger park, still going strong.

Pair on a Perch

These guys each claimed one of these old concrete piers on Lady Bird Lake. They remained there calmly while I went down the hill to frame a shot. They are some sort of geese, I think. They might have gotten this vantage point to look for breakfast.

To the Library

The bridge over Shoal Creek on Second leads to the library on the West Side.

Pork belly

Lots of visual and taste treats on this pork belly plate at Hestia.

Array of Snacks

Another shot from Hestia-- we chose four snacks and all of them were delicious.  Here you see the oyster, scallop, uni on cornbread and beet and avocado.

Silverware in the table

Hestia -- the new restaurant right across the street from us -- has silverware in the table. You slide out the drawer and take out your implements of food destruction.

Another good one

El Arroyo's sign handlers always have a good thought or two.

Paella! A visual treat as well!

Here is a new taste treat at the Farmers Market which is in business each Saturday, near our home.

Streetscape

It's the first of the month so it's Theme Day at City Daily Photo. Our assignments this year are to show elements of our city. This month it's a streetscape. Something typical or unusual or just something we like along a street. We chose this one. The owl is one of a pair in front of the new Proper Hotel and Condominiums. The view is looking west from the bridge over Shoal Creek on Second Street. The photographer shown is FFP. One can see the Austonian and the Ashton in the distance. The construction on the right will be an office people housing more Google employees. Across the street from that is the Northshore. I bet some pictures of the Butterfly Bridge show up here eventually from FFP's viewpoint! To see what other participating cities posted for Streetscape, click here.
