Blooming

We are getting out in the neighborhoods these days and things are all abloom.

Loyal Forever

At the Austin Memorial Park cemetery, this stone decorated a Marine's final resting place. Grass and weeks were having their way with the Semper Fi however.

Figures

The one on the left? The statue of Liberty? The right? Jesus or Elvis. In the Rosedale neighborhood near our old house.

Kiddy Ninja

Our recent neighborhood walks are revealing that these setups are popular. Perhaps so the kids can train for American Ninja Warrior.

Bottle Tree

Saw this on one of the neighborhood walks. This was in an area called Hemphill Park, north of the University.

Saying hi in strange times

Some friends walked up to the top of the parking garage across the street to wave at us on a recent night.

Reuse

This gate in Rosedale appears to be made from various pieces of scrap iron.

Buried With Boots On (Top)

These bronze boots adorn a headstone at the Austin Memorial Park. Looks like one can conveniently hold a vase, too.

Hi There

Our upstairs neighbors have a little cat that I noticed while spending some time on my own balcony which I do quite a bit these days since there is no place to go out.

Cranes, Reflected

Cranes from several construction sites in downtown Austin are reflected in the north side of the 500 W Second office building. That building houses several companies but much of the space is occupied by Google employees currently working from home.

Happy birthday! Via social distancing.

These folks were wishing happy birthday to a friend in our building a couple of nights ago.

Thanks to the responders!

The famed Thunderbirds made a flyover of Austin yesterday to pay tribute to the hardworking people on the front lines of the fight against the pandemic.

Free Seating

We took a walk in the vicinity of our old house and there seemed to be a lot of people giving away questionable seating.

Never Give Up the Game

Often folks put a footstone as well as a headstone to mark the plot where their loved one is buried. These folks used the space for a 19th hole. As a friend said when I posted this on Facebook, it is also near a water hazard.

Headstone Sculpture

This abstract sculpture is probably one of the oddest headstones I've encountered.

Odd Symbol on A Headstone

I wonder if twenty or fifty years from now anyone will understand this symbol on a headstone.

New Bird in Town

Sitting on the balcony and noticed a new (and very tall) crane up at the site of a building where a small hotel used to be.

Tribute

It's interesting what people will put on the memorials in cemeteries. This car is on a headstone at the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in our old neighborhood.

Big Old Moon

Not a great picture because it was lazily snapped with my iPhone while drinking a Manhattan on the balcony. It was rising beside an office building under construction.

Sara's work in the paper

Sara Hickman, a friend of ours, did this chalk mandala for us on the top of the parking garage across the street. I took photos of her work and the local newspaper ran three of them with captions. What fun!

Chicken from Fixe

We had a great to-go meal brought over the other night. Here you see Linda's chicken with fries.

Chicken sandwich

One of my favorite dishes at Fixe. They are so good to keep on delivering during this period in our lives. Excellent food!

Banana pancakes

Lots of flavor in these easy to make pancakes! One banana and two eggs does it.

A friend wrote this book

about her transgender son and it is getting national press. Very good read.

Shopping!

This is the extent of our shopping these days -- deliveries at our door. I hope this horrible time in our lives is over soon. It's theme day at City Daily Photo. What an ironic theme for us. Click here to see what others around the world did for theme day.
