Puzzle me this

Lots of inspirational women on this puzzle we worked the other day. It took a bit of doing, but then we were on a roll!

Tri-color -- and they tried hard!

We spotted this vehicle the other day on a walk -- there were a couple of others like it nearby. That took some effort!

Dinner in the little house

We rented an Air BnB for a change of pace this month. This meal was ordered from a nearby restaurant. It is fun to try something new.

A worthy education

This school has a special section where kids learn about ecology. I hope that it can open back up soon.

Saw this sweet piece of yard art at a fancy house in South Austin the other day.

This old store keeps on keepin' on in the heart of gentrified south Austin. More power to them!

Circular reasoning

Linda did a great job of laying out and attaching the outer circle pieces of a jigsaw puzzle a few days ago. Always fun.

Saw this yard sign in south Austin the other day. A good thing to keep in mind.

Fifteen years ago

I thought I'd put a blast from the past up today. I took this shot at a fundraiser for Austin Cabaret Theatre. In the middle here you see Lady Bird Johnson, Lynda Bird Johnson, and Liz Carpenter, who was the First Lady's press secretary. Carol Channing was the entertainment that night.

That's Weird

This is a yard display in a neighborhood that is fairly far north for us with the limitations we are imposing on ourselves just now.

Circular Logic

I think circles make interesting architectural elements as demonstrated with this gate. I like circular windows as well.

Splash of Color

These flowers brighten up a yard in Hyde Park that has a decorative windmill as well.

Dead Wildlife Museum

The giant giraffe sculpture is in South Austin at a place that is apparently a stuffed wildlife museum (as in taxidermy).

Timely Paste Art

Saw this pasted up in South Austin. They are quoting the governor of Texas. And maybe implying that he is sacrificing decreasing the spread for, um, money.

Home Sculpture

This interesting sculptural array is in the yard of a home in South Austin.

A friend (Angelique Naylor) shot this from a kayak on Lady Bird Lake. Captures a lot of the buildings and the reflection of some of their colorful tops. Our building (the 360 Condos) is left of center with the spire to the left. The very tall one left of that is the Independent and the very tall one nearer and on the right is the Austonian.

Catching the Light

We walked in a neighborhood that is pretty far north of where we usually go. This yard art included decorations in the tree and they added some old CDs to catch the light.

Tribute on the Larry Monroe Bridge

There is a little bridge in Travis Heights which is a mosaic memorial to Larry Monroe, a local musicologist and DJ. This part is a tribute to the late, great Doug Sahm.

This plant is commonly called a Shrimp plant. Easy to see why. I have been encountering this more and more on my walks.

I'll Bee There for You

 

This bee was hard at work the other day on this cactus blossom.

Banana pancakes

Easy to make -- 2 eggs and a banana mashed up in a bowl!

Funny Farm!

Here is a nice example of making something whimsical to spice up a neighborhood.

Hail, Caesar!

Here is my stab at making a Caesar salad. Linda said it was tasty! White anchovies on top and shaved Parmesan.

Another good sign

Signs like this one are all over the inner city neighborhoods in Austin.

Lots of straight lines

This house somehow seems to fit into a neighborhood with a lot of smaller cottages built in the 1940s.

Geodisic dome?

Whatever the purpose is supposed to be, this dome is a nice shape to see in a South Austin neighborhood yard.

City People

We live in the city (downtown Austin). The theme for City Daily photo this month is "City People." From our balcony, the city is usually quite busy with people. But the pandemic has changed everything and sometimes all you can see is a downtown lady and a downtown dog out for a stroll. Click here to see what other city blogs chose for the theme day.
