Hole in the Sky Again

We have been looking at blue skies with an unrelenting sun for so long that we are fascinated by clouds that aren't actually smoke from wild fires. Unfortunately in the middle of Austin all we've gotten so far is clouds and lightning and little actual rain. This formation was seen briefly yesterday as storms moved through southeast of us.

Somthing Uplifting

Felt the need for something uplifting today so I've chosen a view of part of a mosaic wall at the Phoenix Academy on Live Oak, a drug treatment facility for teens.

Tourist Cow

The funniest thing about this cow is not her socks, the flowery shirt or the fanny pack or camera you can't see in this picture. No, it's that all her spots are the shapes of continents! Spotted (pun intended) at Fifth and Lamar.

Elegant Reflections

At the Ballet Austin event on Friday celebrants enjoyed a somewhat cool evening on the terrace of the W hotel. Notice the balcony panels that once were glass. Will be interesting to see when those are replaced. (See this entry.)

Cabin in Clarksville

There's some real history in Clarksville as this old cabin attests.

We Enjoy a Lake Outing!

Saw this pair on our Lady Bird Lake trail stroll on Friday. They did have some people with them. To push their stroller, I guess.

Banned Book Week

Banned Book Week is September 24-October 1. Book People got a jump on things and had this up for a while with books banned at various times and places on offer.

Boots Cow

Spied this one near the Convention Center and thought, what the heck, I'll show you yet another cow.

Unusual Home

This home in East Austin (Riverview) is certainly an unusual design.

Nesting the eggs

Obviously, I shot this photo a few months ago and forgot about it until now. These eggs were located outside a building in downtown Austin. I hope the baby turtles are out foraging around somewhere by now.

1966? Or 2011--you be the judge.

.
We were on one of our morning walks a few weeks ago and passed by this house which sports two fine examples of the main modes of transportation from the 1960s: A VW bug and a VW van. Nice to know some folks are keeping the flame alive for all of us old-timers.

Bats on the Bridge...Cow

I like the image of people on the bridge watching the bats. Reminds me of this wonderful picture our friend Jackie took.

Shirts and Leashes Off

Thought this guy and his dog looked like they were enjoying life at the Auditorium Shores off-leash park.

Eye Cowumba

This gal was 'sighted' at the Long Center (parking garage in background). Yeah, Eye Cowumba.

Bevo

Wonder if this fellow (a photo op in the University Co-op parking lot) is aware of all those cows?

All Too Apropos

This cow, on South Congress, is called blazing cow or something like that. Given the horrible wild fires in the surrounding counties and the continued lack of rain in Central Texas...it's all too appropriate.

Sky

It's been so long since it rained here that I'm glad to see clouds...even if they don't promise rain. This is what I call a Simpsons sky (after the titles in the cartoon The Simpsons) providing a background for the stacks at the decommissioned Seaholm power plant near our house.

Good Form

On Labor Day, last Monday, a triathlon took place in and around Lady Bird Lake. Normally swimmers aren't allowed in this lake so it's always odd to see them there. These were bunched up near the kayak and buoy marking the swimming path.

Hike and Bike and...

Caught this guy Monday unicycling on the hike and bike. Do unicycles count as bikes?

Easy as 1-2-3?

We have some of this back-in angle parking around town now. It's supposed to be easy. You stop before the spot and signal. The guy behind you is supposed to stop, let you move forward and back in. Simple as that! Always makes me glad when I'm on foot.

Historic Home near Downtown

Sometimes we forget that there are things in the downtown area besides high rises (and cows). Here is a historic home on Baylor Street. Less than a mile from our house.

TaCow!

TaCow appeared in front of the Garrido's restaurant in our building while we were gone on vacation. Love it.

Where There is Smoke

Yesterday around 5:15PM we took this picture from the balcony of our condo. That is not a mountain, nor a cloud. It is smoke from the Batrop County fire.

End of Summer Abandoned Shoes

The country club displayed lost and found items that they were about to dispose of if not claimed at the end of the summer. This shows a small portion of the shoe department.

Stevie Shares the Shores

FFP caught this cow near the Stevie Ray Vaughn statue on August 18 on his morning walk. One day we will have to figure out these wandering cows.

Perspective

Seen from this angle our Capitol Building doesn't look so big. Shot through the gate on the south side. Today's theme on City Daily Photo is 'perspective.' Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.
