Pease Park Playground

This is one terrific piece of playground equipment at Pease Park.  I would have had a field day on this thing when I was a kid.

Burger Frenzy

The line was long at Hopdoddy's on a recent afternoon.  This place packs them in, that's for sure.  The waiters were coming outside to serve drinks to people standing in the heat.

Say "Cheese"! Or at least "Coffee"!

I wonder how many people have had their photo taken by this sign on the side of Jo's Coffee on S. Congress.  These folks are having fun with it.

Clarksville Untamed

We walked down one of the dead end streets in Clarksville and, yes, there is a manufactured home neatly perched there. Gentrification is not yet complete.

Don't Ask Me to Explain

These sewn objects are colorful and cute and they look very nice.  Are passers-by supposed to sit on them to watch the traffic go down Lamar?  This type of thing is called "yarn-bombing."

Ready to Eat

It's good to see people having fun in Pease Park. This food spread was ready to go around 10:00 on a recent morning.

Good Times Calls

The operator of this decidedly old school ice cream truck at Pease Park was perched in her window using modern technology to communicate on a recent morning.  If I could still eat ice cream, I would have bought something from her.

Albanie and Her Fellas

We went to The Elephant Room the other night to hear Albanie Falletta and some other great musicians.  John Doyle is on clarinet in this photo and the bass player was in from New Orleans. Note the remains of great sax player Tony Campise above the live musicians.

Fixing the Peninsula

A part of the Hike and Bike Trail we use is closed. The good news is that they are reinforcing the penisula where Shoal Creek enters Lady Bird Lake and with giant limestone blocks at that.

One more Art Bra

This model at Art Bra chose a Wild West Cowgirl theme for her fashions. She was quite impressive and got a great ovation.

This model at the Art Bra Fashion Show and Fundraiser was showing off an antler rack design for her entry.  She got a lot of applause.

Linda and I support the Breast Cancer Resource Centers.  Saturday night, they hosted their annual Art Bra Fundraiser at the Austin Music Hall.  This lovely model named Colleen -- a cancer survivor -- wore a creation by a famed local jeweler. It was being auctioned off while she posed for the crowd.

Photo Op

The Capitol grounds are apparently a popular site for Quinceañera photos.

Caught these musicians at the University of Texas Blanton museum entertaining during the museum's Fifty Fest last month. Love hearing music in these galleries. We were in a gallery nearby when FFP said "that's a bassoon!"

Lots of gentrification has come to downtown's east side, but you can still occasionally glimpse a back yard used to stockpile unwanted appliances.

Car from the Sea

Detail of an art car spied on Sixth Street one day. Most of the car was tropical or sea-themed but the roof was an odd paean to space.

Peace Officer's Memorial March

On Monday, May 6 a large number of Texas peace officers march up Congress Avenue to the Capitol grounds in the annual memorial to the officers who died in the line of duty in the previous year.

Reindeer Games

Just off Rainey Street is the G'Raj Mahal and their property is often used by the Austin Bike Zoo to store there creations. This contraption of a string of reindeer was on display last Sunday.

Dwarfed

This house, just off Rainey Street, is dwarfed by the high rise going up in its backyard.

I love this logo for a little joint on Holly Street. A muscular jalapeno!

Relic

This relic of a something (a pump?) sits in a vacant field on Chicon. Wonder who owns this land?

Future Trail

Sunday we walked on the north shore of Lady Bird Lake to the east and checked out the construction on the south shore where a boardwalk is being built to extend the trail over the lake where there is no trail access now. These rowers were gliding by on this peaceful day.

More filming in the hood

A film crew in the parking lot a block away seemed to be involved with a scene featuring the red car in the back of this photo.

Walking along 15th the other day returning from the UT campus we saw this 'peaceful' tie dye VW getting gas.

End of the Rainbow

On April 29th we had threatening skies and spits or rain around town and then this fabulous rainbow as a reward.

Keeping Us Safe

This vehicle which belongs to Homeland Security has been keeping our building company most weekdays for a while. The nearby Federal Court House is the site of a trial involving a drug cartel.

Graffiti Seating

We were wandering on Baylor the other day near the Castle Hill graffiti 'ruins' and noticed that an abandoned couch had shown up and become part of the tagging.
