Doggie happy hour

The off leash area at Auditorium Shoes was heavily in use a couple of days ago. From the smoke, it looks like one of the dogs is vaping.

Breaking Weather

Big rains and threats of tornadoes and high winds moving through the area today.

Manhattan Dolls

These lovely ladies called the Manhattan Dolls were entertaining the troops at the Austin Cabaret Theater show the other night. As you might gather, their music was from the WWII era.

We were seated with a group of friends at the recent Zach Theatre fundraiser and I took this pano shot of us all.

We took a walk in a west Austin neighborhood the other day and saw these homes across Lake Austin. Talk about lake views!

Meredith and Martin, two friends of ours, were recently singing at a party to honor two other friends of ours who recently got hitched. 

Moderno room

The Blanton Museum has a fine exhibition up about the modernist styles that came to Latin America in the post WWII era. This example of a room with nice decor is interesting to see. 

I don't want that job

This realistic sculpture on a bench outside a downtown building might fool some people.

I took this panoramic shot on the Congress Avenue Bridge the other day. My partner in crime is taking her own shot. A bike that went by came across as a weird blur. 

The blade is back

The historic Paramount blade is back up for the first time since 1963. It looks very imposing on Congress Avenue. .

Amtrak

If you lived in our 'neighborhood' (downtown Austin) you would know that there is a busy train line that comes through the west side where we live. Our friend Jackie caught the Amtrak going by one day.

Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge

Our friend Jackie has a perfect vantage point for the hike and bike bridge over Lady Bird Lake which takes folks not in cars off the dangerous Lamar Bridge to the right.

Sightseeing

We've been seeing this biplane flying around downtown and Jackie caught it on one of her sunset watches. She did some research and reports "it’s a bright red 1935-ish open cockpit sightseeing plane. I saw it once in the morning and could tell that it is red, but in the evening we can’t see the color."

Good morning, AUSTIN!

The sunrises this time of year can be spectacular. I caught this sweet one the other day.

Austin City Limits

That mass of ants in Zilker Park at sunset? That's the Austin City Limits festival last weekend. The second weekend should be roaring now. That's Lady Bird Lake in the foreground. Thanks to our friend Jackie for the photo.

Ready for Music

Jackie shot this from the balcony seats at Moody Theater. She says the Mark Knopfler show was amazing in that most of the sold-out crowd were in their seats before the performance began.

Our friend Jackie went to see Mark Knopfler at ACL Live at the Moody Theater last month. She says it was an amazing band with all kinds of instruments including one in this photo that looks quite mystifying.

Is this a shaman? Anyway, he was on the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge the other day, playing his gongs and adding a mystical touch to the area.

It's a lazy day on the lake

These rowers were content to just drift along on Lady Bird Lake the other day.

This snapper dish I was served at Cantine, a new restaurant on South Lamar, was so pretty I wanted to put it on this blog.

Impromptu shelters

We saw these colorful umbrellas on the high rise construction site across the way from our condo building and took a photo of them with our telephoto lens. Since those guys are out in the elements all day, they need to have places for a respite from the sun. It's theme day at City Daily Photo. Shelter is the theme and we suggested it so this picture heads up the Theme Day Gallery.
