Crowd at Women's March

LB and I took part in the march on Saturday afternoon in downtown Austin that attracted around 100,000 people. I'm going to post a few photos that I took over the next few days.

Shell Game

Unsure where they were going with this yard art. Found in Old West Austin.

Deconstruction?

There are some condos going in on a long empty lot on Blanco Street. However, this worker seemed to be removing some boards when we went by the other day.In any case, I liked the composition.

More Young Artists

Jackie shot several of these murals on electrical boxes. The armadillo is very creative. Wondering about the color choice on the flag motif, though.

Child's View

The electrical boxes around the Palmer Events Center are decorated with little murals painted by the children of the Austin Transportation Department. This one represents the nearby park, Lady Bird Lake and the skyline.

A bridge over Dawson Creek sports some interesting fish tiles.

Victory Through Vegetables

Jackie captured this bar scene on Christmas Day at Threadgill's on Riverside Drive. I'm guessing some of those folks are getting their veggies in a Bloody Mary!

Southern Sunset

Jackie caught this when the sun is setting  about as far south as it gets. Shot from just west of the Third Street pedestrian bridge over Shoal Creek. The shapes of the new Second Street bridge, the new library that will open this year, and the Seaholm Condos are visible.

Kiosk for Something

Jackie and I both were wondering about this new structure on Electric Drive (aka Second Street). She says:

This looks very weird to us; needs a palapa with a bar and bartender making pina coladas on the left side (east) of the bar stools.

I have a theory that it is going to have phone charging stations eventually. It is near the electric car charging stations.

Gary Clark, Jr.

Jackie got this fantastic picture of Gary Clark, Jr, at the Paramount. She says it was a rare acoustic concert and fantastic.

First Lost Shoe of the Year

Jackie found this cute little shoe on her walk near the Pfluger Bridge. It's our first abandoned shoe of 2017, but I bet it's not the last.

I love a good roast chicken and this one at the Trio Restaurant in the Four Seasons the other night was terrific.

Loved this doormat we saw at BookPeople. A lot of people could use it.

New mural in the hood

This artist was putting the finishing touches on a mural down the block on the side of a bar the other day. He was doing a great job.

Linda took this shot of me on the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge the other day as we headed home from a movie. What a skyline our little town has now.

We noticed this sign the other day -- T.A. Brown must have been quite a guy. He was a principal here for 41 years. Amazing.

Saw this great poster for our friends Artly Snuff at the Christmas Bazaar. This benefit raised a lot of money to help him after he was in a bad accident.

Just one more from the old year -- these talented Broadway performers came through town and did a great cabaret show a few days before Christmas. Loved it!

Photo of the year

We have been living in this high rise in downtown Austin for 8 1/2 years now. Sometimes we are still amazed by the views from our living room windows when the clouds and the reflection of the sun harmonize. We had lots of choices for Best Photo of the Year, but this one stood out as symbolic of our lives in downtown Austin. Sending this photo as a Happy New Year card to all our fellow bloggers and viewers around the globe. Best to you for 2017!
