Apartment Slogan
This mural inside the garage entrance of the AMLI apartments between Colorado and Lavaca brings the slogan of the apartments to life I guess.

Work in Progress Two
Change is the constant. Here is another shot of this mural in progress. When it's done, we'll try to get a picture.

Work in Progress
Walked by the AMLI on Second the other night and saw that a mural was being painted on the wall inside their pass through between Second and Third. My friend Jackie was by earlier to catch the artist working on it.

Good Morning
We stumbled up early enough to enjoy and take a picture of the sunrise. Worth getting out of bed. Like every moment in life, these moments of morning colors are fleeting.

En Plein Air Skyline
I snapped a picture of this fellow on Saturday as we walked back from the museum event featured in the last two pictures. We had seen him not far away on Wednesday when we were driving. After I asked him if I could shoot his picture I should have gotten his name but I thought I'd be able to find it on the newspaper WEB site because a Statesman photographer got his picture and it had been in the paper. FFP came to the rescue by contacting the Statesman photographer. His name is Chris Chappell. His subject here is AMLI on Second.

It Actually Rained

Mighty Cloud
At sunset on Tuesday a mighty cloud in the east reflected the setting sun in the west. This same cloud formation (which showed a little lightning but brought no rain) appeared so strange from the vantage point of San Marcos to our south that someone made the cloud a facebook page.

Snow!
This is just a dull picture of the AMLI on Second and the W Hotel and Condos (under construction) except...yes the white stuff is snow. The wonderful thing about snow and Austin is that we get very little of it and so we get very excited about it. None of it caused street problems downtown and while many weathermen and residents intent on a late start to school or a day off work were hyperventilating, not much harm came from this little storm especially down here near our home. But actual snow flurries reached the heart of Texas. And I'm thankful that's newsworthy. Today dawns sunny and just above freezing and promises to be lovely. So forgive me for presenting what looks like a dull photo today!

A Beautiful Day Number Two
New Year's Day was a nice day and 2010, Day Two, dawned as a beautiful if chilly one, too. (Today it's kind of cloudy and damp.) That's steam from the Austin Chilled Water plant obscuring the top of the W Hotel complex which now almost completely blocks our view of the Austonian. AMLI on Second in the foreground with lights in the parking structure and balconies poking out to the south.

We Don't Get Tired of the Sun Going 'Round
I guess there is no statutory limit on how many sunset (and sunrise) pictures we run. This is a sunset reflected in the clouds and buildings looking east a few days ago. FFP captured it for the few moments that it appeared this way. Picture not retouched or altered. Notice that the top of the Austonian is nearly glassed in. (Yesterday a lot of it was invisible in the clouds for part of the day.)

Burnt Orange Surnise
Everyone is excited about the University of Texas football team's success this year. On Tuesday even the sunrise was burnt orange. Silhouettes of AMLI on Second, the W (under construction) and the Austonian (with its crane still topping it) are captured from our balcony. As in yesterday's moon and sunset, no color correction on this one.

Lost in the Fog
It isn't raining this morning but, as the pilots say, 'the ceiling is low.' This picture would show you the top of the Austonian except it's lost in the fog. (See a recent picture here.) If you'd bought the penthouse and it was finished, you'd be in the clouds this morning. To refresh your memory, the closest building is AMLI on Second (actually stretches from 2nd to 3rd) and the construction in the next block is the W Hotel, Condos and Austin City Limits studio.

Night Lights
Turn out the lights in our apartment and the Frost Bank and the green light on the AMLI building provide beckons for us, adding their glows to our various night lights. There are even a few lights in the Austonian which will one day be ablaze with lights from residents; apartments at night although from our low altitude we think the W hotel will block our view of some of it.Today is City Daily Photo Theme Day and 'night is the theme. Reflecting on Downtown Residences

View Changes
I took this on the Fourth of July this year from Headliners Club in the Chase Building. Last year a similar shot showed a hole in the ground where the white crane is and the W Hotel is rising. I understand it will be almost twice as tall as the AMLI (silver building) so next year Auditorium Shores and Long Center won't be nearly as visible, if they are at all, from that twenty-first floor perch. Last yea's shot was taken later and showed more people and the green light already on the AMLI. By the end of next year the skyline will be pretty settled, I think. We will have some time to get used to it before the next round of building gets underway.

Austin's Tallest Building
We were gone a couple of weeks. This is how The Austonian condos looked on the morning of June 8. It is already Austin's tallest building at 48 stories as it is in this picture. It will eventually be 56 stories. I will show a newer picture in the next few days and we will see how it progressed. Here is a picture showing the AMLI on Second building on the right as reference taken about a year ago.

Mystery Light
Back in January I speculated about the weird grid on the other side this apartment building (AMLI on Second which really faces Third to me). It turned out to be a green light. I like this building very much and I even like the lights from a distance. I'm not as big a fan of them up close (as from my condo window), but they are getting to be a comfortable friend.

Downtown Neighbors
As we have mentioned in this space, there is a new downtown apartment building that is close to the spot where we will one day be living. AMLI on 2nd hosted a fundraiser last night on their pool deck for Planet Cancer, an organization to provide services for young adults with cancer. This shot across the pool deck shows our future home in the background. We duly noted that we will be able to see this deck from our balcony since we could see the balcony from here. The pink theme was well-executed by the party goers.

Not the W Hotel
The copper building with the many forms is Austin's City Hall. The stone wall near the lower right has 'City of Austin' or something tastefully etched out of the native limestone. The W that seems to be in the Window? Why that's not there at all. It is projected from the white box of a building in the lower left corner. That isn't George the W's Austin office. No. It's the sales office for condos in the W Hotel/Condo/Austin City Limits Studio complex that is going on the block just north of it. Or is it? That block is scraped but there is no sign of ground-breaking or cranes yet. Unless it's emerged in the last few days. This was taken from my friends' apartment in the on the southeast side of the new AMLI.
