Caught in the Act
This one in the shopping center with the Alamo is kind of meta if you imagine the artist painting the spray painter painting the Austin....

South Lamar Mural and Graffiti
This graffiti on South Lamar near downtown seems to have acquired some graffiti as well. What's the difference?

Looking for breakfast
This family seemed to be from a European country. They were looking for a place to have breakfast and we gave them some ideas.

No Sidewalks
The east side of near South Lamar. In parts, there are bad sidewalks. Here, none. That's my husband treading along. He's been nursing an ankle injury and we haven't been walking a lot. I miss it. This was taken in November. I think I'll post more pictures of him walking with me at a respectful distance. (Kidding, I just fall behind while talking pictures.)

Anima
I confess that all I know about this photo is that it was found in my shots after a walk around South Lamar. Do you ever take a photo and not remember doing it or exactly where you were?

Austin Icon and Dental Hygiene
FFP shot another detail from the mural we showed yesterday. Here Willie is taking care of his teeth, maybe in a dressing room decorated with his posters.

Reflective Mural
A new mural has appeared on South Lamar. I think it may be on the side of a dentist office. In this detail, Janis Joplin appears to be brushing her teeth and looking in a mirror, surrounded by posters for her concerts.

Recycling Shop
I never have worn one and never will. But some folks did and they are offered up for reuse. Seems like wedding dresses are the last bastion of 'one-time use!'

Big City
Jackie shot this from the Fourth Floor of a Foundation Communities project on South Lamar. Looks like a big city, doesn't it? Jackie says
[Fountation Commities} “provide[s] people with an affordable, attractive place to call home, as well as opportunities right at their doorstep to transform their lives.” They’re building new apartments at 2300 South Lamar, on a former car lot, and I was fortunate to take a hardhat tour. It’s going to be a huge asset to its tenants and to the neighborhood.

Burger Boom
There always seems to be some burger joint where people in this town are standing in line for the wondrous offerings. We have never tried most of them because we don't eat burgers every week. But we did try Shake Shack one day on our exercise walk. (Negating any effect of the exercise no doubt.) Two Shack Burgers with cheese and one order of crinkly fries. The funny thing is that we go to New York City now and again. And that's where Shake Shack originates. Never been to a shop there. We still haven't tried the local P Terry's or the California In 'N Out Burger or Hopdoddy (Although I think we have taken pictures of lines there!) Our favorite joints for this sort of fare are Billy's on Burnet and Dirty's. And truthfully at Billy's I always get an avocado Reuben which not only isn't a burger but has no meat!

Catch the Wave
There is a car wash called H2O on South Lamar that has this mural. I captured it with the nicely washed sports car in the lot while we were walking up South Lamar for our health (and to try a Shake Shack burger).
