Shoal Creek Trail

The Shoal Creek Trail has been redone from Fifth to West. Here's FFP climbing down the steps from Fifth. That's my finger over the lens trying to grab the picture with my phone!

Easy Access to the Trails

This is FFP walking toward the pedestrian underpass at Shoal Creek and Cesar Chavez. From our condo we can use this reopened piece of the Shoal Creek Trail to access the Butler Trail...and avoid crossing any streets.

Old Sculpture, New Home

This sculpture is just off the Shoal Creek Trail near 29th and Lamar. It is a sculpture by David Deming that used to be on the grounds on Laguna Gloria. The Contemporary (which operates Laguna Gloria now) is placing some of their collection out in the community. When it was at Laguna Gloria, it was hidden from view.

Fancy, fancy!

Every time we walk on the Shoal Creek Trail, we see some fine new additions to the visual appeal. This wall displays some great stone work. You see my partner in life walking by it here.

Walled up!

It took some serious work to make this eco-friendly retaining wall on Shoal Creek.

What's going on?

This squirrel was on a precarious perch over the construction on the Shoal Creek Trail the other day. He didn't know quite what to make of it all.

Be Observant...it's Spring!

One of the top signs that it is Spring in Austin are Red Bud trees blooming. You can see a branch in bloom to the left of the amusing warning sign.

Regal Graffiti

Not sure what the meaning is of this graffiti on the Fifth Street bridge abutment is, but I recorded it for posterity a few Saturdays ago.

The Wilderness

We walked the Shoal Creek Trail one day from under the Fifth Street Bridge to 31st Street. I was struck by how much it looked like a wilderness north of 29th Street.

If I Had a Hammer

This is part of the Pease Park/Shoal Creek Trail installation I introduced you to day before yesterday. The stars make me think the glove on the other one was part of the art. Freedom? Hammer? Hmmm....

Finding Your Way in Art

We walked through Pease Park and up the Shoal Creek Trail to 29th Street the other day. Someone had made art from a few logs in a clearing. Not sure if the glove was part of the installation or lost and found.

Remains after Rain

After some rains and high water on Shoal Creek these remnants of blankets and clothing remained in the trees. We were walking on the Shoal Creek Trail near Fifth Street.

Portage

After some recent rain Shoal Creek had been reduced to a trickle but these bikers still had to gingerly get across to continue on the trail.

Eye on Trees

We were walking the Shoal Creek trail out of Pease Park when I noticed someone had decorated this tree. It's probably not good for the tree but it's cleverly anthropomorphic.
