More Fall Walking

Also in Old West Austin, FFP walks along by some yellow foliage.

Fall Colors

As you could see yesterday in FFP's picture of Elm Street, Austin got some fall colors this year. Here he is walking through Old West Austin on that walk near some bright red foliage. A lot of the trees in Austin are Live Oaks. They push off brown leaves and instantly replace them. Kind of a deciduous evergreen! But we do have some maples, elms and others that can produce pretty colors. However, to make a nice display it requires a good deal of rain right before fall and an early cold snap. We had both this year.

Fall

The berries on this tree are red and the leaves on the vine invading it are yellow making for a nice display.

It Must Be Fall

Yep, regardless of the temperature, one sure sign that Fall is here is huge displays of pumpkins and gourds at Whole Foods. These beauties would be great for Halloween because they are Wolf Pumpkins! Local produce according to the sign

Fall Display

Whole Foods is showing a nice display of fall pumpkins and gourds now. Yesterday we showed a gnarly detail for the theme day of 'mystery objects.'

It Must be Fall

As evidence I present an iPhone photo of a display of decorative fall produce. I won't bore you with the aisles of Halloween candy, paper turkey stuff and Christmas toys. Fall is officially upon us in spite of the high temps still flirting with (or entering) the '90's (Fahrenheit) every day.

Celebrate Spooky Times

These gigantic (and expensive) pumpkins were on sale at Whole Foods the other day. I started to post something else and I'd already shown pumpkins here and here (fake ones in this case). But before I post I glance at the other blogs recently updated and, well, Halloween is a sort of unintended theme day, isn't it? Meanwhile, I have to prepare for tomorrow which is the first of the month and so has an actual theme. (It is 'Books.')

Can it Be Fall?

Well, there has been a little cool in the air in the mornings, but the surest sign that it might really be fall in our often hot Capital City is this pumpkin display at Whole Foods Market at Fifth and Lamar. FFP and I went in and had a vegan taco salad with faux meat and faux sour cream. Very good, actually.
