Orange cake and cheese

This small slice of moist orange cake and a piece of cheese was a perfect dessert at Lenoir the other night. We love eating at this initimate venue and we caught up with a friend at the same time.

We aren't in Paris, but . . .

we can still enjoy some Madeleines. These orange flavored treats were tasty.

Madeleines -- my, my!

These lemon Madeleines at Le Politique the other night were scrumptious. The perfect ending to a meal. And this place is about one and a half blocks from our home, making it even better.

Sweets for the not-so

I can't eat a lot of desserts so it's nice when a benevolent chef makes me something like this sorbet dish. And the presentation was superb.

As mentioned earlier the Driskill Hotel is having it's 125th Birthday this Christmas season. Last Thursday they served this cake which looks like a pile of presents.

Welcome Cutie Pie to the Neighborhood

One of the newest trailers in the SoCo neighborhood is Cutie Pie's weighing in with a tiny bright trailer selling tiny pies. The former nurse who owns the stand won a pie contest at the Driskill and decided to sell pies.

The Cup Cake Thing

This place is in South Austin (on South First). It has a cool sign. I haven't been inside so I know nothing about the offerings but that looks suspiciously like the (now ubiquitous) cupcake.

Treat Trailer

The complex of trailers on South First that has Torchy's Tacos (fried avocado taco, yum) includes this trailer which has sweet treats mostly including 'smores where you toast your marshmallows on a tabletop burner. That seems to be popular lately with the kids. (And the kids at heart.)

Cupcakes are All the Rage

This is a relatively new shop on Burnet Road (near Phil's). We also have a cupcake trailer on South Congress (I assume it's still there). The trailer and the shop have the same name (and cupcake) so maybe it's a chain of cupcake shops. I wonder if there are other cupcake shops in Austin.

End Your Diet

South Congress is now home to the "hey cupcake" trailer and on a fine day a week or so ago people were partaking of the sweets.
