Uptown Sports Club Is a Hit

We tried a new restaurant on East Sixth today. Uptown Sports Club. Loved it.
Here are some of their offerings.

Country Look

This looks like a place in the country with the gate in the stone wall, but it's in east Austin not far from skyscrapers.

Showing the colors

We saw this distinctive version of the flag on a recent jaunt through East Austin.

Strolling along

We decided to walk around East Austin the other day. Here you see Linda going up the hill near the Ebeneezer Baptist Church.

Rosewood

The Rosewood restaurant is in a historic old house on the East Side. It is located at the fork of East 11th and Rosewood.

Symbols

This mural (in the garden area of the old house that is home to the Rosewood restaurant) is probably packed with meaning. The house on the right appears to be the old house.

Too Long in the Sun?

These over-sized army men that seem to have melted were outside an art gallery on Springdale Road on the East Side.

Bent Figure

I discovered this figure in a little park on Springdale Road. There were many sculptures, maybe placed by a gallery across the street which seemed to have similar wares. This is called 'Bent Figure' and is by Magdelena Jarkowiec.

Sometimes the Murals Baffle Me

This mural is in a food truck park off of East 11th. I don't really get it on any level. But it's interesting.

What Beat is That?

I think this east side mural has to do with hip-hop or rap or something.

The Eagle Has Landed

This mural swoops on the side of a building on the east side with the new, soon-to-be-opened Fairmount Hotel looming on the other side of IH-35.

Oh, yes, Bacon!

This appears on the Sputnik restaurant. A kind of pork-specific answer to the famous Jo's coffee shop "I Love You So Much."

Bottle Tree

This East Austin bottle tree appears to be of the wine species. Frequent grafting has produced a hodge-podge of colors.

What Lurks Beneath?

Mural artist on the East Side has an interesting take on what might lie beneath Lady Bird Lake! Great imagination.

Commentary or Just Graffiti

This mural on an abandoned strip center on the east side was defaced. Was it commentary or just putting the wall to use for graffiti?

What'll It Be?

This mural on an east side street portrays that classic dilemma: coffee or cocktails?

Ninja Mural

I like how this mural in East Austin seems to have been painted before the purple-framed windows were installed.

Doug Sahm Mural

This mural between a liquor store and a dive bar on East 11th is definitely Doug Sahm but why he's offering "Lost in Austin" graffiti paint is a bit more of a mystery.
