One block to the Farmers' Market
It tickles me when people ask us "How do you get your groceries?" since our move downtown. Well, besides the grocery in our own building and the Whole Foods about five minutes away on foot, the local Farmers' Market happens each Saturday, one block away. (There is a large mainstream grocery on Lake Austin Blvd, too.) And we always see a lot of friends shopping there. A very small town feel in the heart of the city.
This young lady from Orange Blossom Farms had some delicious tangerines for sale yesterday. They really are good.

Whoever would ask that question obviously doesn't know downtown Austin very well. :-)
ReplyDeleteHah! Well, more than a few have actually said that to us!
ReplyDeleteI think the question is more about affordable groceries. Even the Randall's on Lake Austin blvd is bit pricey compared to H-E-B's further out (not ridiculous, but a good 15% higher).
ReplyDeleteAccording to GPS the HEB at 2400 S Congress is 2.5 miles away. I always wonder if the people talking about bringing home the groceries to downtown walk or drive for their own food and how far. I wouldn't mind a walkable HEB or Randall's.
ReplyDeleteWell, distances do seem to get longer the closer you are to downtown - 2.5 miles in the 'burbs is right around the corner, but downtown, it's seems waaaay further away :)
