Out of Kilter

A bike is great transportation downtown until a wheel is out of true and the seat gone.

  1. Hello, I am a fellow Austinaut of 18 years, and seeing as I'm 18, I think I'm doing pretty good. Latly as I've been spending more and more time downtown, I have been coming across more and more of the people and places mentioned in this blog. Why, just today I passed by Thom's Grocery on my way to Barton Springs. And the other day, while on my way to adopt a puppy I passed by the old power plant and saw the great lighting bolt sign you show off. Like all Austinauts, I'm am a huge fan of our beautiful skyline, but I must admit shyly that I am not a great fan of the 360 tower. And let me say now, that I have no personal beef with the tower, it's just that, well, I'm such a fan of the Frost Tower. Every time I saw it I was so full of pride to know that such a beautifull bilding was the tallist in the city. So natraly when I found out that 360 would be taller, I became a little sour. It had been one of my dreams to one day walk right into the Frost Bank and hop on an elivater just to see how high I could go (hoping to maybe be the highest person in the city at that time). Now I know it's a silly dream, but i was looking so forward to it. Maybe I'll still climb the Frost one day, but it wont be the same. That being said, I will tell you know that the 360 is growing on me. Sure it doesn't have the beautifull semitry and neogothic style that is the flower Frost, butit does have a certin charm. A certin grace, with it's single arm stretching twoards the sky. Which leads me to my final question. What is that arm? I was staring at it all day today and just could not figure it out! Is it a suit? A dinning hall? A glass elivator that takes you any where you want to go? I've got to know! Any clue?

    Egerly waiting you're reply,
    Katelyn.

  2. The 'arm' as you call it, is nothing really. Just decoration.

Rather than dreaming of being the highest person in the city, you might dream of mastering writing. In any case, you would not be allowed to go to the top of the Frost Bank (there is no public area and it's an office building) or the 360 (which is a private residence). The Austonian, which is rising on the west side of Congress will be higher than either and an office tower is planned to be higher than that. Things change. Although not the spelling of certain or elevator.

  3. Is it really necessary to correct everyone's spelling??? I've enjoyed this blog for several months now, but my thoughts are beginning to change. Not that you really care, I'm sure.

  4. No. Not necessary to correct everyone's spelling. Not necessary to publish comments. I guess I don't care very much about being 'old and dull' and caring about writing or whether you stick around or not. Life is too short. Our young friend would, in my opinion, benefit by improving his/her writing. I appreciate it when people point out my typos and faux pas. If I don't publish the comment, I look elitist. If I do and don't comment on the horrendous spelling, I feel I advocate it. Nonetheless, you may read if you wish. It's public. I published your comment so you had your say on my blog as well to chide me for the corrections. Let's leave it at that. No more comments on this one unless it's about the bicycle!
