We walked to the university yesterday and on Guadalupe (students call that commercial stretch of that street 'The Drag') we were wondering why there were pigeons all over the roof and on the sidewalk of this Pho shop. Then this guy came out to feed them and all was clear.
That's alot of pigeons making a big mess!
ReplyDeleteWe get that here too. I'm surprised it isn't outlawed.
ReplyDeleteIs squab on the menu?
ReplyDeleteSo what is piegon in Thai/Vietnamese?
I've never eaten at this place and, um, yeah, thoughts like that crossed my mine.
ReplyDeleteIt crossed my mind too.
ReplyDeleteHere's a quick anecdote. For a while when I was a letter carrier I delivered mail in Chinatown. In the mornings I would see guys selling live pigeons they had in a sack to people on the street. It turns out these fellows would catch the birds as they slept on rooftops at night.
I don't think the shoppers were looking for a pet.
Back home I see folks feeding pigeons as well, but it is more out of pleasure of feeding them than anything else.
