Before going to our club to work out yesterday, I made a trek up the steps to the top of Mount Bonnell, which overlooks Lake Austin. This vantage point yields one of the best views of the lake in town. Lake Austin, of course, is part of the system of manmade lakes formed by the dams on the Colorado River and it winds through the middle of our fair city.
As Linda points out in her comment, ours is the informally-monikered "Little" Colorado River, not the big daddy that starts in Colorado and goes to California.
For geography buffs following along at home, this isn't the same river as the Colorado that goes through the Grand Canyon and into the gulf of California. I've heard people call it the 'Little Colorado' but not officially. This river rises up in Texas and dumps into the Gulf of Mexico. On the Wikipedia Entry it is interesting that they chose a picture of Lake Austin, too, but not one from Mt. Bonnell.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful view. I didn't realize that Austin had hills this high.
ReplyDeleteAustin is astride the boundary between the Texas Coastal Plain and the Hill Country. Mt. Bonnell is one of the highest points around the city. FFP had to climb a 100 steps or so to get up there from Mt. Bonnell drive. Of course, he was headed to the gym for exercise so why not?
ReplyDeletePretty view.
ReplyDeleteI love Mount Bonnell. My friends and I used to go up there and watch the sunset, then all the lights come on in Austin. :) Great picture. Pretty View. :)
